Watching with snacks is encouraged 8-B
you gonna post today's highlights? I missed them. Especially right after the third set break (copying that other old guy on the tour)

All things considered it was a positive start. He played well and likely got done out by the fatigue of playing consecutive professional matches for his first time in a year. The level of play is there, he just needs the match fitness to go along with it.
Still, if you are good enough to get to matchpoints, you should be good enough to convert them, especially against a nobody. And he had more than enough chances.

One thing for which Djokovic truly deserves credit is that he never chokes matches. How many times did he lose from being a matchpoint up? You can count these times by hand. And none of them was a choke.

They were too epic for rafans to post. He came back and for last 4 days these guys derided Nole. Not all rafans I must say, there are half of them who are quite reserved.

But other half had suppressed rage due to 2023 results of Nole. But these half are the problem. Without pandemic Nole would have blown Nadal out of water already and not just been 2 slam more. So no point getting angry at the goat now.

There are half of the rafans who have been far better than other half though.

If this, if that...
If Nadal were healthy and if the WTF were on clay...

Yeah not much to say besides that he looked fatigued to me from the beginning of the match. He couldn't break Thompson's after the first set and the fatigue likely made it more probable he would choke in a high pressure situation. But yeah, he blew it.

In the grand scheme of things this match really doesn't matter though, and it may be more beneficial that his tournament ended here than push himself further and risk injury.

If every match is now a risk to get injured then is there even a reason to show up for BO5 tournaments?

How was he looking in person? How was the atmosphere? Awesome that you got to go.

Should have converted the match points. He's exceeded all my expectations so far, hopefully it's a sign of even better things to come 8-BI'm going to enjoy every match bc I won't be watching really when he's gone :D

Yeah, he looked a lot better than I thought he would at the start of the season. Match fitness was always going to be the last thing he got back after being out so long. Jordan also played well above his normal level so hats off to him. RAFA should have closed it out in straights, but it is what it is. Hopefully RAFA is just sore from not having played an actual match in a year.

It was a surreal feeling seeing him in person, like this person who I've watched countless hours on a screen actually exists in real life and here's right there in front of me. Something I found noticeable when he first began hitting was the cracking noise he makes when flattening out his shots, particularly his backhand sounds almost like a gun when he flattens it out. Atmosphere was great and also really respectful for both players. There were people who were cheering for both players and applauding both guy's great plays and shots. Can't lie though, it soured my mood that he lost and just wanted to leave straight away after match point.

That’s the only thing Djokovic “truly” deserves credit for?

Good thing about Nadals first few matches is that it is visible he can be back to his good form and he will get there over the next few months. He seems to be positive about it.

Negative things are:
- hopefully the hip injury (he was pointing at during the medical timeout) was not coming back
- most likely we will not see him vs Novak at the AO24 or any time soon

It's amazing feeling, glad you enjoyed it.

I felt the same when I saw Nole from few feets away. You won't really appreciate how big a ball he hits until you see in person.

Yeah it’s pretty weird that a RAFAN would be in a thread made by another RAFAN  I’ve been friends with MN for years now. It’s you who’s been coming into every Nadal thread to troll. At least charge the guy rent.
There is a difference between trolling vs posting reality that kids like you realize once you get to 35-40.

7 posts per day vs. 2.5. LOL
That many Nadal threads you attend every day??

Yeah, one thing about live tennis that actually gets underplayed on TV is just how loud and imposing their shots sound. I’ve been in the upper section of Ashe for Rafa and was still taken aback by the sound. Thompson cracks the ball too especially on serve.

Tough loss of course, but it seemed like a great crowd overall, I love when there isn’t a clear favourite and the audience moves between cheering for both guys

My post count is higher because I actually talk about tennis and people will engage with me. You on the other hand sound like some bitter dude in his 50’s trolling on the internet. The fact that your first urge was to come in here and rub this loss in MN’s face says a lot about who you are as a person.

You got my age right.
Also, we can analyze who contributed more to this forum with the equipment analysis and details.
Again, I don’t believe you understand the meaning of the word “troll” but it sounds cool at your age. My 20-something daughters use it randomly too.

As for rubbing in Nadal’s loss - read more about my postings in the thread. Then read what you posted / “contributed” ;)

Don't think it was a positive start. He beat trash Dominic, some other trash player and lost against pigeon type of player as soon as Thompson started playing some tennis.

I know, it's first steps after a year, but I expected more of him. He was slow, tried to be aggressive but missed too much. When he was playing his regular game shots were too short.

Don't know... He will sure be much better for clay, and that's what he is aiming for, I guess...

Ah the basement of TTW, thanks so much for your “contributions” it’s truly made this a better place. Call it whatever you want but you came in here to be a jerk. Your “contributions” have essentially been backhanded compliments at best.

I only speak harsh truths without being politically correct. I don't try to troll anyone.
Lol sure dude. You’ll literally make posts in row sometimes addressing someone without even quoting them. The only time you take a break from trolling is when you’re making another ridiculous take.
