? for those using 2 overgrips on the bare racquet handle

I wanted to reduce the grip size of my frames so I have been experimenting with using just 2 overgrips. I might make the switch

Do you change both overgrips or just the top layer? It's going to get expensive if I have to change both.

when i used to do this i just replaced the top overgrip. however, if you're hands tend to get sweaty and the bottom overgrip is getting worn out then you should probably replace it too. at the end of the day its up to you.

Just replace the top overgrip. The bottom one never sees the light of day and doesn't wear down much.

I replace the top every time, and both every couple months...

probably don't need to, but i think it freshens it up a bit

I replace both. The top one gets worn out and slippery, and the bottom one gets thinner and compressed, leaving no cushioning whatsoever.

Sometimes, I just remove and re-wrap the bottom one in reverse (since I only use a 1HBH), so I can get more life out of it. Since the top portion is undamaged, I can re-wrap and re-use it.

I usually only replace the top. TonyB has a good point though. I think the bottom one gets compressed and it looses some presence. My grip feels a little smaller these days. I'm going to try replacing both and see if it fattens up some.

If that really does happen, then I'd change out both as often as needed. I really just need to sell my racquet and get a 4 1/2 grip.

Change the top every time you need to, change the bottom 3-4 times a year. IMO, that's enough so that the bottom one doesn't get crushed into oblivion.

Keep in mind, you'll have to re-balance. There will be a 5g difference between 2 OG's and the stock synthetic grip. The payoff is a quicker, more accurate feel between grip changes especially if you use a 1hbh. Reducing your grip size can also give you more spin from faster racquet head speed.
