fuel to the sharapova wildcard fire

i understand why they give sharapova wildcards, because she's a big draw & name but I'm surprised by this one for Rome. apparently they gave one to shrapova and denied one to italian native schiavone, not to mention it's her last year on tour.. kinda surprising/sad they would do something like that or...? what do you think?

Saw a thread on this very subject last week.

When was this decision made? Don't mind the WC for Sharapova because of her draw potential for the event. But wondering why Errani chosen for a WC over Schiavone. As of a week ago Errani ranked 90 while Schiavone ranked 77.

It was announced in the middle of April when Schiavone was losing left and right, and ranked #168...

Then after the WC debacle she won Bogota and made the final in Rabat, and jumped almost 100 spots in the rankings
