For example?
(I don't know of one myself because I seem to be hitting ok and people tell me I have nice strokes... I'm not doing much other than hitting.)

Let's see:

  • Grip
  • Take back
  • Follow through
  • Point of contact
  • Footwork
  • Form
  • Etc

I will indeed be doing footwork drills. (I actually look forward to that ... I've seen some YouTube drills like the spider and such.)

?(Is 5.0 that much better than 4.5?)

"if you see someone practicing their serve, politely ask them if you can return them."

LOL! ... that is so simple and utterly effective ... be a tennis sparing partner... I bet I could get some time on indoor courts doing that... wouldn't have to join another club.

there is a huge range in 4.5 imo. The guys in the 4.5 vid that was posted are probably on the lower end of 4.5 (particularly black shirt guy), some 4.5's look better than the guys in the 5.0 vid. Then again it's hard to really tell from an excerpted video.

I wouldn't worry about setting a number if I were you OP, just learn to play and enjoy playing. Watch a lot of tennis on TV, you can really learn a lot about how the game is played (rules, point construction, match management, technique etc..)

Now down to 335 and it's getting easier to be more consistent.

I'm not aware of when my back foot is not well planted (leading to an 'open' position and hitting it higher); losing awareness of the ball when I accelerated too hard at the beginning of the swing; straightening of the knees when beginning the stroke, and weight being on the heel of the leading foot ... when these are all orchestrated I have a pretty ok stroke I think (but not yet where I want it to be on the court).

All these symptoms are the same I've found in golf.

QUESTION!... how can I train myself to become more body aware off the court? ... being aware of both my feet becoming and staying planted as well as watching the ball all the way into and out of the 'strike zone' (the later I can hit it in the strike zone the far more time I get on the ball and the more spin.).

In other words... practice to 'play piano' off the court... brain training!
