Godzilla v Kong - Who have you got winning this one?

Came out in the UK yesterday and is teed up for tonight with all the family - so haven't read the reviews yet but will compare notes tonight. Loved GZ all the way back to the Toho movies - a friend of mine was a nut and I got to watch a lot of them. I especially remember GZ's fight with Ebirah Horror of the deep - a giant lobster thing. GZ rips off a claw and then taunts him with it. This was after playing boulder tennis if I can remember correctly - was a while back now. The music was fabulous as well.

To be fair to all the monsters, to make sure there is no bias to their h2h they have to play on all surfaces, land, sea and air. Clearly GZ would win in the Sea as his game is buuilt around that but Kong can impose his strengths on land.

Can't wait.

You will have an incredible time, the Kaiju smackdown in this movie does NOT hold back. It feels like a heavyweight boxing, wrestling, MMA showdown.

Share your thoughts when you have seen it. I've seen it three times so far, will watch again tomorrow.

I ended up watching it in 3D this time. It is truly some of the best visuals in cinematic history @Hitman

Now that's what I'm talking about! I can only imagine how freaking epic that must have been!

The movie is absolutely killing it on the big screen, the fans need more, hopefully Legendary, Toho will reach a deal for it to go on. Seen it four times now, can't get enough of the last act.

It's the best 3D experience I have ever had.

Four times already!?!?! You truly are a fan of this movie aren't you. I've never watched a movie four times that quickly. Was it all in the cinema?

Watched this with my family on Saturday night and everyone absolutely loved it - finally a movie you can scoff popcorn to. It is a masterpiece in monster action. Kong gets his ass kicked by Zilla after putting up a real fight but like a true champion picks himself up for the main event - MechaGodzilla. He totally takes that bot apart in a rage fuelled brutal smackdown using that supercharged axe. Thor would go green seeing what that beast can do. Godzilla through all of this shows a level of durability and an arsenal of weapons that makes him the boss but respectul of a very worthy adversary. Tremedous visuals - my kids for once did not move or talk through the film. Top marks. Loved the Hollow Earth make up and the weird gravity effects.

@Hitman - will watch again as there were parts that slipped me by as I enjoyed the action - probabaly a little to much. I really hope there are more to come.

I wish I could have seen it, glad someone did though! Once got a special limited showing in the big screen, rest at home on stream. I've got a 4K copy now.

Yes, I am massive fan, not just of this movie, but of monster movies in general. I have got all the Godzilla movies, 30 plus of them, spanning back from the 50s, the Mothra movies, Rodan movies, Kong movies. I just love the massive Kaiju fights.

This movie was being built up to for 7 years, so I was anxious to see the payoff, and they got it right, the fights delivered.

Good stuff!!! Yes, Legendary have already noticed the continuethemonsterverse hashtag trending on twitter, it has truly blown up. Need more monster fights!

Hong Kong was wrecked! Kong doing a Riggs Lethal Weapon with his shoulder blew the roof off. LOL

Found the clip of the boulder tennis, GZ sees off Ebirah in the first fight. It must have been so much fun to make those 1960's movies.

Still smiling about the Riggs move, that was so funny.

Great that there is a movement pushing for more - there is so much material to draw upon. Just posted a clip from Ebirah - this one sticks with me as one of my first encounters with GZ. He did not just beat down Ebirah, he did it with style.

Oh there is so much more that can come from this, Space Godzilla, Biolante, Destoroyah, they could even get Gamera if they get the licensing for it, and also since Legendary owns Pacfic Rim, we could all of that cross over. And with Hollow Earth now in play, who know what else is lurking there.

Maybe we get The Kraken, Cthulhu, or mythical monsters.

I really hope so - there is potentially a huge audience for this genre of film. Selfishly, I would watch all of them multiple times.

It's been picking up steam over the years, and I think now it has found it's legs. And there is just so much material you can go through, I remember when comic book movies were not the thing, then they started gaining momentum and now are a mainstay.

They are making Cloverfield 2 now also, which was announced on the heels of the massive success of Godzilla vs Kong, so others are going to try to get in on the party. :D (y)

You've seen Godzilla Earth? And Void Ghidorah? If not, and if you don't mind watching anime, check of the Godzilla Earth anime movie trilogy, really freaking good.
You're collection is remarkable - haven't seen those or can't remember seeing them - it was a while back. Following the Kong vs GZ movie I'm sure my boys will join me watching them - thanks for the heads up.

Great it provides such a stimulus to an industry that needs a pick up and in a genre as cool as this. Marvel have really proved that this niche genre of sci-fi can be very successful with quality content. Hope it can work as well for the Monster Movies.

Thanks. LOL. I love collecting movies, got around 10,000 on my home server. :D

So much Godzilla lore, if you can, watch the originals with the sub, rather than the dubbed versions. If you do want any recommendations on what to see, let me know, I have them all, I can tell you which ones. LOL

I think it will, even the DCEU got a boost with The Synder Cut Justice League.

If you show good movies and stay honest to the source material, people will watch for sure. Godzilla vs Kong showed us it can work big time with giant monsters just beating the crap out of each other. There is going to be more for sure.

That's impressive. I can't say I'm a fan, I've only ever seen this version of Godzilla. As for King Kong, I haven't seen the original movie. Only the 2005 one and the last two. Skull Island and Godzilla VS Kong. I'm way more of a superhero guy than a monster guy.

10,000 - thats a heck of a big collection! I think we'll try the original Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla - but really am spoilt for choice. Thanks for the Zilla lore.

Yeah, I have everything. Seriously, I am not kidding you. That doesn't even include all my anime, tv shows etc, plus all my wrestling.

The original Godzilla v MechaGodzilla is a good choice, if you are feeling you want to continue with the MechaGodzilla stuff. Try the Terror of Mechagodzilla also.

Basically there are four big stories, or should I say, four tellings of the Godzilla story.

The original 60s-70s Showa Godzilla movies, the 80s Hesei Godzilla movies - these ones are much more darker, but to me have the best story arc. Ever heard of Burning Godzilla? He is in this series. Then you have the Milennium Godzilla movies -, finally you have the Monsterverse movies.

If you want to watch a horror style Godzilla movie, then watch ShinGodzilla, I highly recommend it. Make sure you also watch the original 1954 version.

Thanks for all those recommendations - like the sound of Shin Godzilla and thats very tempting after the Mecha Godzilla series.

I think every Godzilla fan should watch Shin Godzilla at least once, it's a totally different take. As I said, it is more horror like in presentation, rather than action oriented. (y)
Checked the Imdb reviews and looks very good. One bit of trivia I found interesting was the title Shin Godzilla was chosen as Shin carried several possible meanings including 'new', 'true' and 'god'. In many ways his resurgence provokes those meanings. Love this stuff.

I watched this one in Tokyo at the Toho cinemas in the Shinjuku ward, there is a 100ft Godzilla standing there. It is epic. If you love the lore, this movie will make you think, since in this one he is not made from nuclear bombs in the way the others were....

That must of been some atmosphere to watch the film - GZ's favourite playground.

Oh, at certain time of the day, they play his roar across massive speakers that are fixed in trees lining up the streets of Shinjuku and smoke comes from the mouth. You truly feel like Tokyo is under attack. One of the most surreal moments I have ever experienced. Lol.

The fourth movie of the monsterverse features the two biggest monsters in movie history, who have you got winning this one. Godzilla v Kong coming out in March. Can't wait. A proper trailer will be released soon, just six seconds of footage for now.

Kong landing a savage punch to Godzilla's face, fully expect Godzilla to shake it off and hit back even harder. I've got Godzilla winning this fight.
Worst movie I have ever seen. The last couple were good and then they just went off script.

It is two giant monsters fighting each other, they were building to the fight for three movies and you watched a movie called Godzilla vs Kong for a script? Should have just watched Wall Street,. LOL ;)
The other were not as bad. This was just a bad movie with bad acting and storyline. The last two were nothing like this junk. Wall Street is good by the way.

A movie that is about two monsters fighting, and you think it is the worst movie ever because of bad acting and storyline? OK. :) How many people watch these movies for that, how many just want to see the monster scrapping?

Here is a question for you. Did you actually enjoy the monsters fights? If not, fair enough since that is what the movie is really about, when the monsters brawl. But if your gripes are bad acting and bad storyline, well, you've missed the point of the movie, since none of that was the concern when this movie was announced. The concern by fans was can they see the monsters, will they stop hiding them in the shadows, will they stop cutting away to humans, will they give us a definitive winner. Now, for me they did. If they couldn't do that for you, fair enough. ;)

And I know Wall Street is good, which is why I said, if you are looking for good acting and storyline, then you should watch that instead of a monster movie that says Godzilla vs Kong.

I think they have proven how to do both as seen will Skull Island. This one just said "nah, lets save the money and time." Kong literally popped his shoulder back into place before fighting. They literally dug a whole to china, they found a new earth in the core of the earth, and 2 kids and a weirdo snuck into the biggest and most secure places on earth... and they also went from florida to japan in a couple hours through a hole.

Are you trying to bring some sort of resemblence of real physics and reality to a movie that has a 400ft walking nuclear powered lizard, who if the real physics was applied to do would be crushed under the weight of it's own gravity? Like wise for Kong? These movies are meant to be big dumb fun, suspension of real life physics and just to watch to enjoy massive iconic kaijus beat the living daylights out of each other with the best cimenatography around. They just needed to get Godzilla and Kong together for a scrap and some massive city destruction, that is the appeal of this movie, if you are spending too much time thinking about all those other things, you are missing the point of what the movie is trying to give you.

The movie moves fast, because unlike Skull Island, you have three alpha titans in this movie that need to be brought in, and then brought together somehow, in Skull Island, it was just Kong, and no, the skull crawlers don't count, they are not the alphas. Could they have added in more human stuff? Absolutely, I totally agree, but I wouldn't call it the worst movie ever just because they don't have better acting, people are not lining up for that, they want city destruction and Godzilla vs Kongs vs Mechagodzilla....it's meant to be a like a universal theme park ride.

Anyways, cool you don't like it, not for everyone.

The shoulder popping scene was great in two ways - being badass and just wanting to fight and hilarious as already mentioned alike to Riggs in Lethal Weapon. It’s a popcorn guzzlers dream. Also, the first right cross from Kong would have floored anything - awesome display of sheer physical power. For me a very well produced action sci-fi fantasy.
