after Verdasco´s match today, are you still thinking soderling has a chance against an in form Nadal on clay?

Tennis doesn't work that way,it's all about match-ups and who's better on a given day.Sure general form does matter but that can change very quickly.

I wouldn't say anyone stand a good chance against an inform Nadal on clay but if he's a bit off that day someone like Soderling or Delpo if they're on thier game can push him or even beat him(like at FO last year).

I personally don't think Soderling or anyone for that matter will beat Nadal at Rome/FO this year but I wouldn't say Sod has absolutely no chance,he has a puncher's chance so to speak if they meet.

I don't think Soderling will beat Nadal on clay, if they play again. Soderling played the best tennis match he will ever play to literally blow Nadal off the court. I can't see him ever producing that level of play again to beat the monster that is Nadal on clay.
Also Nadal will be pumped

No, No, and no. Nadal in fact was playing some of his best tennis in the 1st set against Murray, it was Murray who lifted his level and took the match away from Nadal. Tennis is not transitive, it never was and never will be.

Yeah I know all about matchups are different, blah blah blah. Federer still was always going to beat Nadal at this years Australian Open if they played and if you think otherwise you are an idiot. Nadal was playing the best hard court tennis of his life from 2008-early 2009, and on top of that his confidence was at his all time peak. He has played some good tennis since his return from injury but his confidence is nowhere near the same. That is why he hasnt beaten anyone in the current top 8 since last May (though on clay that will probably change soon, but clay is not like any other surface for Nadal). So he cant even beat Roddick or Ljubicic (neither of those tough matchups) in a best of 3 on a hard court now and you think he was going to beat Federer, LOL! Oh yeah add to all of that Nadal was injured at this years Australian Open, it is why he didnt even finish his match with Murray you know (I am not saying he would have won healthy by the way). Then the fact Federer's confidence was well down at the time of the 2009 Australian Open and he didnt play as well in the 09 final as this year (eg- bad serving, the backhand) and that Nadal at his all time form and confidence level barely won last years finals, well you get the picture.

I am also not an enormous ******* like you are so it is funny I am even the one having to argue this to you.

By the way Soderling is way overrated as far as the matchup with Nadal goes. He played the tournament of his life at the 2009 French, and at the TMC caught Nadal at his all time personal low as on a tennis player on his worst surface of all.

The only reason Nadal lost a game against Verdasco is that he was injured during that one game.

Nadal won

Okay, but Nadal has lost to Blake and Ferrer in the round robin stages of the YEC before. It's not Rafa's best time of the year.

Nadal has a winning head-to-head record against both del Potro and Soderling. Davydenko has recently overtaken Nadal in that department, but it's not as if Nadal could never beat him.

You're skewing things alot. Most of Del Potro and Nadal's meetings were before Del Potro hit any kind of hot form. Nadal won the first 4, and the only one he won during a time where Del Potro was a top ranked player was at Indian Wells. After that, Del Potro has gone on a 3 match win streak, with 4 straight demolition sets against Nadal.

Soderling is a late bloomer, and obviously was still a good player before Roland Garros, but he's obviously a totally different player after that tournament.

I studied Sports Science, so that you know. Plus I´m a tennis instructor and a physical education teacher specialized in tennis. I know what a match-up is, and i know tennis is not mathematics. With my post i meant the level of tennis , the display that Soderling showed. Playing at that level and Nadal playing at MC level, for sure Soderling is nowhere near Nadal. did i make myself clear now?

On hardcourt it's always a fight for Nadal to win, on grass it's pretty much even and on clay Nadal got the clear edge, but can still lose if Söderling's on fire.
And you can extract those conclusions based on 5 matches where Nadal has a 3-2 H2H advantage, and where his losses to Soderling came all last year when Nadal was at his lowest level? Good, good. Very sound reasoning.

Verdasco was playing better today than he did in Monte Carlo. He is literally afraid of Nadal, which causes him to play much worse when he meets him.

Soderling wasn't playing at his best level today either. Also, the Swede is a bad matchup for Nadal.

Nadal is still the favorite if they meet on clay, but Soderling definitely has a chance.

Let's face it, Soderling has proven that he is a threat at all time. Beware of Soderling! If you don't you will be sorry.
