got the original aeropro drive... what should i string it with?

i got my hands on a nearly mint condition original aeropro drive. i have never used an aeropro drive before, so not sure what to expect when i string it up.

what do other owners of this racquet use to string it with? what's been known to go well with this stick?

i want to go poly and something not very stiff, but arm friendly. i have wrist and shoulder pains so something softer would be nice. maybe poly and syn gut hybrid?
i want spin, and that was the main reason for getting this racquet. the strings should be somewhat spin friendly.

what would you put on it?

(if this should be in strings forum, feel free to move it there mods)

I'd be very interested to know that, between the original and apdcortex (non-gt) which one provides more comfort given everything else equal.

Thanks.

the original is superior to both cortex and gt from what i heard. that's why i've been trying to get the original. they're pretty hard to come by now though. i was lucky to find one in such good condition locally. i got another one coming soon from out of state, but it took me months of searching to find these, let alone at a decent price.

I am wondering this as well. I have the original aeropro drive and have tried various types of strings and never have been completely satisfied. I recently polarized it and would like a good amount of power and spin capability...maybe I should go for revenge strings at lower to mid 50 tension? :-?

mm, you didn't answer my question. Superior in what way?

If anyone knows, please chime in, which aeropro drive provides more comfort? I don't care about power or spin. They're more or less the same. I'd love to know the comfort factor. :)

Btw, what price did you get for? In the F/S section once in awhile one's asked for $90

yes less stiff, less hollow feeling, and it just feels better from what i heard (although i heard GT is moving towards the right direction, it's still not as good as the original). i still haven't played with any of the APDs so i can't confirm it. i got the good condition one for $60 and the other one for $40 (i didn't get em from here though).

I've owned all three, from a comfort standpoint, the Cortex version plays the softest IMO. #2 would be the Original and 3 would be the GT. The GT is stiffer but still quite nice and I've got 2 of them right now.

From a playing standpoint, I think they all play fairly similarly. The balance is less head light on the GT but not to a extreme. The GT feels a bit more stable but the other 2 are great sticks.

I still remember my first hit with the original Black one, strung with full PHT and it was magic :)

I would string full Babolat RPM at 56 (expect a 10 lb tension drop in the next few weeks), but if you would like to have it at the ideal tension anything mid to low forties would be match ready, unfortunately after a few weeks it would drop to 30 lbs or so. Babolat is one of those racquets that really does well with full poly.

hmm so black code has the most recommendations... perhaps i'll go with that.

i wish they would release these already so i can try what nadal has been using. :)

I've got three of them.

Just got an APD 1st gen. myself and I am taking it in for stringing tomorrow. Can any of you tell me where I might be able to find more at a decent price? There are some on the auction site but they want $150 with shipping.

look few posts above and there's a guy who has 3... dunno if he's willing to sell though.

You never want to pre-stretch poly unless gently by hand to remove some coil memory

i was reading the reviews here on the black code and several people said they stretched em out and experienced much less tension loss... it seems to be the popular thing to do with these strings?

When you pre-stretch poly you basically kill it by removing what little inherent resilience it had.

There's little tension loss since it's already nearly dead from pre-stretching.

wd aren't you supposed to string polys like 10% tighter because of the tension loss?
am i missing something here? am i supposed to string it looser for maximum spin generation?

It's actually 10% looser to account for the added stiffness.

ok so i got to hit with the racquet today with the black code and i like it a lot. it was strung at 53 but just shortly after play i noticed tension loss by looking at the marks on the strings. felt a lot of bite and was able to generate some good spin. but the most surprising thing was how easily i was able to pound my serves in. was hitting my best serves ever! i'm kinda curious to see what the tension loss has been, but i'm guessing its somewhere in the high 40s right now. all in all, good racquet and good strings at least from the first day of using it.

Uhg...not the black code. Yes it feels great at first and really bites the ball but it loses elasticity very quickly yet remaining playable. It gave me tennis elbow which is going away now that I have switched back to the original hybrid. I still think the hybrid is the best.

Cyberblue at 51 or 54 works well and looks even better for obvious reasons.
