Groin Pull

and I don't mean by your wife or girlfriend.

I was playing the other day in cold weather (50 degrees) and I made a stretch and pulled a groin muscle. I stopped playing immediately since I was unable to move laterally.
Nothing popped but I cannot lift my leg up enough to put my right pants leg on...
I can only lift my foot off the ground by about 5 inches without feeling that weakness in the groin area. You don't realize it but the groin muscle (the adductor muscle group) plays a significant role in lifting your leg.. If I lie on my back I can only leg a few inches off the ground.

Now my question is have any of you older guys had this and how long does it normally take to repair... I obviously am unable to play and when I get into a car I have to lift my left knee up to get in inside. Otherwise, it does not hurt when I am no putting a load on it.

What a bummer. I can play with a sore shoulder (torn tendon) I can play with a torn distal bicep tendon, I can play with a sore heel but not with this.

I've pulled a groin muscle before. It was not too severe, but let me tell you it was not much fun either. Exactly as you describe...movement on the court is basically a non-starter. The ability to push off, stop or start fast is severely compromised. I remember mine taking the better part of 2 weeks just for the pain to get to a level that allowed me to get back on the court. Even then it might have been another week or 10 days before my movement was back to normal.

Groin pulls are notoriously slow to heal. Hard to rest it too seeing that any time you move you are using the muscle. Be very patient or it will persist longer than necessary.

You don't have to be a dude to get a groin pull. I pulled mine in August, and it didn't settle down until I rested a different injury for six weeks. Now it's fine.

Do some googling on treatment (icing, stretches). And good luck!

Have you had it looked at? I did the same thing playing 5 hours of football in 30 degree weather ( I know, not smart at all). I had a grade 3 tear where it was almost completely separated. I was okay running in a straight line but lateral movement really hurt.

I was out of commission for about a month or so while it healed up.

if i could not pick my leg up i would see a doctor!

Only advice worth giving really. Sure smart things like rest and ice are a good way to go but if you cant move at all get it looked at.

At least only one person brought up stretching this time. Not a smart thing to stretch a pulled groin. It just puts more stress on it making it take longer to heal or making the injury worse.

Hey, when i googled groin pull, there was some good information on stretching. One thing I remember is googling will tell you when *not* to stretch.
