Can you correctly guess the first set score after watching just the first game? I had blue shirt winning 6-0.

How can you guess a set score after watching one game when we haven’t seen how good the other player’s serve is? You have to be able to judge how easy or difficult it will be for him to hold serve before you can make a prediction on the set score. Especially at advanced levels, the serve is the most important shot in tennis that determines point patterns in every game.

Give me enough tries and I will randomly guess the right score.

If you're asking about inducing or deducing the right score, I'd be very suspect about my ability.

After Nadal took the first game at RG, who would have guessed that a bagel was being baked?

Watching the first game is cheating. I believe I can usually tell the set score by watching the guys walking on the court. I find it harder to believe that those two guys were/are D1 tennis players. But I guess there are a lot of D1 schools, and if you have the money you can travel to Tanzania to pick up and ATP point.

While everything you say is correct, isn't it still possible to take a guess based on his stroke technique, physique etc? While actually seeing the serve is a dead give-away as you rightly said, should it stop us from building suspense by coming up with our own guesswork?

I believe I can usually tell the set score by watching the guys walking on the court.

We should also be able to tell by the way sit on the bench, bandana and sweatbands... (on rec courts that is)

I have a tendency(or involuntary reaction) to estimate scores (on rec courts) by various visual factors the players exhibit even before I actually watch them play.
It's not rational or objective or realistic or the right thing to do.

Not hard to believe at all. "D1" doesn't mean everyone is >= UTR 13. I'm a mid-level 4.5 and have played against 2 ex-D1 guys in doubles from small schools and while they were clearly better than I, it's not like all they had to do was serve or return and the point was over.

Guessing the set score from the first points is almost performance art in the live match threads. Those threads are like all cognitive bias met in one place for the common entertainment.
