Guillermo Canas

Canas won the Shanghai title in a rout over Burgsmuller, losing only one game. He has shown great improvement this year and says he expects to finish next year in the top 10. I know that in 2002 he had been close to reaching that level but suffered an injury and has only come back now. I think he is more fit than his other countrymen. He is more versatile than Coria or Gaudio and also more mentally tough than Nalbandian. The top 10 looks like a realistic goal and he may even finish ahead of his other countrymen next year.

Possible. Top 10 is stretching it - it takes a lot to get into the top 10, either a couple of really awesome weeks or super consistent play all year - but top 20, yes.

Canas is awesome to watch live, he is so pumped up its incredible. However, he is never "in your face" kind of pumped, he is just so...intense. Awesome forehand. He is also a great sportsman, always gives what's due. Unfortunately, he is a classic baseliner, grinds out every point, his serve is fine but nothing special, so he has to toughen it out. As a result, his body jmight not take it for long.

It won't take much at all to get Canas into the top 20. That will probably happen this week, even if he doesn't do very well, because a couple of people above him are set to fall.

Top 10 is a little further off, but if he can pull in some good required results and keep his level up, I don't see why he couldn't make it.
