HA, I got the #1 seed in my first adult tourny

Of course, seeds were chosen at random, but it's my name at the top of the draw. I've played some Junior tournaments a few years ago with no success (my only win was a walkover), but I was playing in two very tough sections for juniors (SE Michigan and NW Ohio), and these adult tournies are theoretically more even because of the ratings. I'm a 3.0 but playing up at 3.5 just to see how I do, really.

So if any of you are going to be at the Perrysburg Tennis Center over the weekend, good luck to you and maybe I'll see you there.

awesome on joining the tourney that's not a seed though that you're referring to, just your spot on the draw of however many participants there are. if you were seeded, and it's a USTA tourney, there would be a list of seeded players, typically denoted by a big red number in parenthesis before their name, but after the number that denotes their spot in the draw. however, if there were seeds in your tournament, the #1 seed would be in the spot you described!!

Will be the first time I have played 3 consecutive days in many months though so it will be good test. Not my favorite facility in town as the courts are really slow there so watch your footing. Should be fun though.

Is this a USTA sanctioned event? If so, you risk being rated up to 3.5, especially if you play competitively and/or win a match or more. Are you still playing for Gary?

Some of the slowest indoor courts I have ever played on. By far the slowest courts inside in town. Fits there demographic well though. But pretty nice facility overall. Had some issues with their automatic lighting but have heard they have been worked out. The facility only opened around the beginning of the year.

It is sanctioned applesauceman.
I will stay for the pizza party tomorrow after we get off the court. I believe we are the first matches to play at 6 pm. My partner looks like an escaped convict/gang member. You will see what I mean when you see him. Nice guy though. Stop by and say hello if you like.

Yeah, it's sanctioned and I am still playing for Gary. I think I'm pretty close to moving up right now anyway, plus I may be playing for a 3.5 team that plays out of my HS for a little bit this summer, so there's a risk either way. If I go out there and get killed I'll know that I'm nowhere near getting moved up, but if I can make a match of it, I'll know how much I've improved. I'd feel kinda bad if I got moved up over the summer when I'm not at Ramblewood, but at the same time if I can do well at 3.5 that's probably where I should be. This specific tournament is also an excuse to check out a new club.

Hmm, interesting about the courts, that actually helps me a lot since I like time to set up my shots. I won't be there tomorrow, I got a bye and my 1st match isn't until Saturday morning. It's hard to turn down free food but I live just across the border in Michigan so it's about a 30 min drive.

Well, it didn't go well at all, however there were some positive things I can take away from it. I fought back from 4-0 down in the second set and came within a few points of bringing it to 4-5 with a very nervous opponent, so the fact that I stayed in it (albeit after I had pretty much given up mentally, only to get back in it) was a very good sign, at least to me. No worries of me getting moved up, Sauceman

I gotta say, I hate to be that guy, but those courts are terrible, almost no bite to them at all. It seems like nothing bounces like a normal hard court, everything stays really low. It's almost as if there was some kind of rubber or soft material underneath the surface, and the characteristics were very similar to what was described at the Aussie Open when they switched surfaces.

I'm pretty sure I did see you, Tennisman, I just didn't realize it until after I had already left. Your partner was the taller guy with long hair, right? You guys are very good, I saw you play two guys around 2:30-3:00 today, it looked like a very good match, those guys were very very good.

Yes, that was I, the out of shape lefty and my long-haired partner. Thank you for the compliment and yes, those guys are ballers. They don't even play USTA league tennis and only play open tournaments. I don’t get that level of competition often so that was a lot of fun, even though we did end up losing. Wish I would have played a little better, but I would much rather lose a match against superior players than beat up someone. We did win yesterday at least though. They did invite me up to play with them on a more regular basis as they live within 45 minutes of me. They did win the tournament not surprisingly and that was our last match.

Sorry to hear you didn’t pull out the match but glad to hear you fought your way back. As they say, you never know what will happen if you get them doubting the outcome. I told you those courts were “unique.” This tourney is only the second time I have played there, the other being a social mixer, as I also am not a fan of the courts. I hope things go well in the back draw for you.

I hope you watched a little of the ladies playing next too us. That young lady, Zorana, used to be an assistant coach to Ivanovic and Jankovic and a hitting partner to Djokovic in the past. Obviously, a phenomenal player.
