Had my first flu shot last fall and..........

I have had the absolute worst "health year" of my life. Got my first ever flu shot last September and in November got a bad sinus infection. Another sinus infection in January and yet another in March. Had several head colds later in the spring and summer. And right now......I have another sinus infection.

I've never had a year like this with so many colds and sinus infections. The only common denominator I can think of is the darn flu shot. Just a fluke? Either way, not getting another one.

I've gotten a flu shot yearly for the last 15 years and haven't had the flu in 15 years. In addition, my stock portfolio and 403B are at record highs. And my son's baseball team won the league championship. And Kevin Anderson made the US Open finals. Coincidence? I think not.

But did you get the flu?

This poor woman got a sinus infection and all you can do is point out that she didn't get the flu? What a heartless beast you are.

Oh well, might as well JUMP, JUMP!!!
Heard this for 15 yrs. Sickest folks choose to forgo the flu shot. But I never had a sinus infection

Flu Shots are a controversial subject. Generally, the medical community is for them and the naturalists are against them. I won't get into the arguments for and against them, but you can Google it, and suffice it to say there's enough information out there to write entire books on the subject.

I happen to be against them. Personally I found that I've been sicker in years where I've had the shot but that's just anecdotal and not scientific. I also know my mom is religious about getting a flu shot every year and 3 years ago she nearly died from Guillain Barre syndrome a month after taking the shot. I tried to tell her that the flu shot probably caused it or contributed to it, but she's a retired MD, so she refuses to believe it and will continue to get flu shots every year until she dies.

Yeah, but I hear they have a good severance package.

your mom is a retired MD who obviously doesn't know as much as her son and she just won't listen to you?

Great post :) Maybe you and the OP can get together and start a blog.

My parents this week have been working hard to get a flu shot! Each time they show up, an excuse is given on why they can not have one now. It is always, you have to wait and hour. it has my parents puzzled. The folks believe in the flu shot, but I've noticed they nearly always develop the flu/ severe cold once or twice during winter. If it works, it isn't full proof. They would be better off if addition prevention methods were given.

I pass on the flu shot. I do take precautions to avoid catching a cold/ the flu. I eat healthy, and make it a point to obtain some moderate UV exposure during winter months. I have a vitamin D light. So far so good, no flu/s colds to report is around 10 years since I began doing this.

yeah, thinking about it, makes me chuckle a bit, we had a large family reunion a couple years ago. Before coming everyone decided to get the flu shot. I passed on doing that. And wouldn't you know it, right away most at the reunion developed a nasty cold/flu. It put a damper on the holiday gathering. Thankfully I didn't develop the came cold/flu even though I was around everyone sick for around 2 weeks.

The flu is not a 'severe cold', they are not even comparable. People say this all the time, "I got a flu shot and I got sick!" Because they equate a cold with the flu.

I like the vitamin D light though, guys love tan lines!

Guy goes to the pharmacist:

Guy: "Doc, I've got a horrible flu, can you get me something"
Pharmacist: "You don't have the flu, you have a cold"
Guy: "Oh ya, and how would you know that?"
Pharmacist: "Because you're here, not in bed"

Thanks! The vitamin D light has done me good, with cold prevention and making me feel more upbeat.

That is what my family said too. I looked it up and have seen mention that there can be little difference between the symptoms of a cold and having the flu. As an example, from the CDC:

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/coldflu.htm

How can you tell the difference between a cold and the flu?
Because colds and flu share many symptoms, it can be difficult (or even impossible) to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. Special tests that usually must be done within the first few days of illness can tell if a person has the flu.

What are the symptoms of the flu versus the symptoms of a cold?
The symptoms of flu can include fever or feeling feverish/chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue (tiredness). Cold symptoms are usually milder than the symptoms of flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems.

I had a my first flu shot back 6 years ago when it was in style and everyone did it! Got sick the entire Winter months with one thing or another. The Doctors where happy I think for the business but I was in bed a lot! Never took another and just have a cold some years but is it!

I got a flu shot last year and didn't get the flu. That proves they work 100%
Not the case here in Australia. The flu shot didn't work because the virus mutated and we had the biggest number of flu cases ever despite the injection covering 4 strands. We had the peak in July and August but it's still going on. Authorities are doing a review because people claimed they got it wrong.

Sinus infections can occur after you had a cold but also from allergies and rhinitis. There is a good product called Flo that can minimise this. Stress can also mimic sinus pain and infection as well.

It could never be the vaccine right?

All those parents who report their kids getting sick immediately or soon after taking the shot.....

just coincidence.

Never admit guilt,never.

There's no conspiracy here folks, just get your damn vaccine!

Instead of making vague accusations (both yourself and the parents who believe their children are being harmed by vaccines), the course of action is simple.

Finding specific cases of children being harmed by vaccines would be beneficial. These cases could be studied. Then either a change to the vaccine could be developed so it stopped causing harm or a warning could be issued that children with certain known risks should either avoid vaccination or be tested before the vaccination is administered.

But what fun would that be?

you're far better off getting the FLU SHOT!!! The sinus cannot be correlated to the flu shot as that makes zero sense.
I am not doctor but living in 4th World Vegas has wiped me out with 2 massive Influenza bugs so now I take my flu shot
