Has anyone ever played with the Adidas Illie Nastase?

What still doesn't make sense though is why he painted the Wilsons when he preferrred the Dunlops?

And I didn't know about the Adidas Aluminium ADS550, I'd really like to get one of those!

No, it wasn't me. I do remember reading that tidbit first on these boards though. Prior to reading it on these boards, I had always assumed that Ilie played with the Haillet.

That is what puzzles me since I've read Nastase's book. Unless for some reason Adidas objected to Ilie painting his Dunlops. Does anyone have any idea why? Any interesting conspiracy theories??

It may have been that Nastase tried several frames after moving to Adidas and liked, for whatever reason, the Wilsons better than the Dunlops. He wouldn't be the first player or pro for that matter who liked a racquet for 3 months and then decided he'd screwed up. I'd almost bet that at some point, he did have Dunlops painted. As much as Adidas paid him, they wouldn't go cheap on not buying Dunlops...

I've posted a time or two that Nastase revealed the Jack Kramer Pro Staff frame underneath the Adidas decals when, during an on court fit, he stepped on the face of the racket and pulled up on the handle until the racket broke. Pretty sure this was during the WITC at Sea Pines, perhaps '76-77.

Well yes, I havn't got the Haillet!

Most of them are probably the cheap ones you are right, and I havn't tried the 2 that I have with the open throat, the Mistral and the Aquarius, I think they are called!

Any idea what those 2 are like?

I have the Mistral. It's fantastic .. Like the Head Vilas open throat woodie
