Has Fed Ever Mentioned Mirka?

I have not seen each of the 15 victory speeches Fed has made. I admit that.

But, um . . . I kinda noticed that he didn't thank Mirka in his victory speech the other day. She's his wife now and has been his companion and business manager for years. She is carrying his child. Yet I've never seen Roger thank her. I was really expecting it the other day, but it didn't happen, did it?

In contrast, the Williams sisters almost always thank some subset of their relatives, often thank God, and occasionally thank their sponsors.

Eh, maybe I'm just being oversensitive.

Cindy -- who would be hurt if her husband didn't acknowledge her in his victory speech if he ever, you know, won anything :)

I can recall a couple times when he did. His French Open 09 speech being the most recent.

Yes he has. The difference is that at Wimbledon, they are more answering questions than speaking freely. Federer more answered the questions. At the French Open, he mentioned Mirka and the fact that they are having a baby soon.

Venus and Serena kind of ignore the questions and thank god and their box, which there's really nothing wrong with, just different styles.

you often hear roger say thank you to the sponsors, his wife, his box, his parents.

you won't see him thanking god though (I'd say that's rather positive)

Everyone stop the presses!!!

Federer is obviously the antichrist.

I heard that if you play his Roland Garros 2009 acceptance speech, the devil tells you a message.

P.S. I love your avatar. ;)

NO, Cindy you aren't being overlysensitive.. I, too, was waiting for that with his speech at Wimbledon.. and whoever said he was answering questions in that interview.. uh, NO.. I saw it, he was speaking freely and just decided not to make mention of Mirka, I didn't like this about his speech..

How mean :twisted::twisted:

"my fantastic wife" - he said that at the FO. At the WO, he answered some very focussed questions about Roddick, about how he felt on 15, playing in front of Pete etc etc.

And did you by chance notice how any of the other married slam winners paid tribute to their wives? Did any mention their wives?

ok, so I just watched it again, and
while the interviewer WAS asking questions and in control, (even though, at ANY Time ROGER could have cut in and thanked whoever he wanted..)
The interviewer even tried to STEER him there by talking about her and his expected child, and he didn't snap at the opportunity to say 'thank you' to Mirka; I was WAITING for it.

It would have been nice.

As woodrow said it was an interview and not a speech.

Other majors simply hand the winner the mic and allow the him to speak extemporaneously.

At Wimbledon, they have a set of prepared questions they ask.

And the questions asked of Andy and Roger I thought were a bit odd.

Normally, you'd congratulate the player for a job well done, win or lose, then ask what they thought of the tournament, then ask some pointed questions.

With Andy, the opening question was how cruel the game of tennis is. I think it almost took him aback but he was quick enough to respond with a diplomatic answer.

With Federer, the interviewer asked him to give props to Andy right away.

Hmmm... must be a Wimbledon thing coz Mac asked the legends some awkward questions also. :)

Oh, and to answer the OP question.... Fed has thanked Mrs. Fed a number of times in the past.

tudwell,
No?
yes! I watched it; I recall Fed being very free and just saying how happy he was, etc.. and wasn't being asked a lot of questions he was FREELY speaking!
Why does he even need to mention Mirka? She had no effect on the outcome of the tennis match.

why does he have to mention Mirka?
she DOES have an effect on his game.. she's his wife, his manager, she does help him and is ALWAYS there supporting him..
Novak ALWAYS thanks his 'box' (which mostly includes family and his coaches of course), every time he wins and has an interview;
I like this about him.

Why Roger couldn't do the same to shout out his appreciation to Mirka?.. she's not ONLY his wife and now mother of his child, she's his manager.

^^ Both Federer and Roddick were stunned at the post match interview. Federer was living in the moment and his answers didnt make much sense. Roddick looked like he wanted to cry. I doubt they were thinking clearly. Also, why does it matter so much? I am sure even Mirka wasnt expecting him to say anything.

...So have you guys seen Transformers yet? I was gonna go, but the reviews said it was stupid and the action wasn't good enough to substantiate the terrible plot. Open to suggestions though.

Hey, I wasn't saying Federer should be tarred and feathered. I did notice the omission and wondered if anyone else had.

And yes, the Wimbledon interviews always strike me as crazy-weird. I can't decide whether I approve of their way or not. It is better than the standard issue crap you hear from American interviewers, who seem to adore the "How did it feel to [insert "win" or "lose"]?" It seems like the Wimbledon interviewers are trying to jiggle loose some unusual quote with a more creative approach. I wish they would be a bit more gentle with the losing player, however.

And yeah, I had the same reaction as Lainey. It seemed that there was a huge, gaping opportunity to throw some love Mirka's way on the very biggest day of Fed's career, and Fed missed it.

Hey boys, from the perspective of someone who has been married a looooong time, I will say this: When in doubt, give your wife a shout-out whenever the opportunity arises. You will never be sorry. :)

Probably not the ones who have seen and heard him so many times praise Mirka and appreciate her big role in his success. You probably have seen just a couple of his post match interviews.

Especially if your wife is making sure on the internet if successful men have been acknowledging their wives or not.
