Has Federer had to play with more pressure and for longer than any player in history?

Do you think Federer has had to play with more pressure/expectation and for longer than any player in history?

He has been seeded #1 at a record 23 Grand Slams, including 18 consecutive. (For perspective, Nadal has been seeded #1 at 9 Grand Slams, with 4 being his longest streak)

He has been seeded in the top 2 at 38 Grand Slams, including 30 consecutive. (For perspective, Nadal has been seeded in the top 2 at 29 Grand Slams, with 13 being his longest streak)

He was first seeded #2 at the 2003 US Open and is seeded #2 at the 2015 US Open, a gap of 12 years. (For perspective, Nadal would have to be seeded #2 at the 2017 US Open)

Good points. But unfortunately,Nadal fans will tell you the H2H,time and time again.
Roger does not need to prove anything any more.I don't think there is much pressure when Roger is playing on court.I hope he can enjoy his career left.If he" luckily" wins more titles, that is wonderful. If not ,what ever.He is still the elegant guy we truely love.

You'd have to compare to similar stats of the Greats of the past (or possibly Djokovic moving forward?). His overall slam and seeding stats compared to Nadal don't mean much for your titular claim.

But as Luckydog said, he's really put himself in a position to be able to play with little pressure on himself. And in the past, he had said that he liked being #1, and liked being able to play from that position. He was comfortable there. Probably the most pressure he put on himself at any time was after he finally lost that #1 ranking, and he was trying too hard to get it back. He's past that now, and probably playing more relaxed than he ever has at this point. After all, he's won just about everything imaginable and holds all sorts of records that are likely to stand for many years to come. What's left for him to be so worried about?

I think the pressure is hard to rank, isn't it. Which pressure? The one a player puts himself under? The one the occasion/history puts him under (2009 FO for both Novak and Federer). The pressure a nation's media puts him under (Murray)? I think Murray probably should "win" this one.

The pressure on Sampras to cross Emerson and Federer to cross Sampras was much more. By the time Fed won 5-6 majors, the whole world started putting pressure on him.

fred is a spoiled crying boy that has not dealt with any health crisis, trauma or severe stress. of course, he was rewarded with lap dog roddick and other underwhelming clown opponents since forever. it's pathetic how his sycophants apologize for his vicious words and laughable losing record against novak and rafa. he's the goat of "almost retiredom". fred's so pretty only if nole surrenders for fred in mickey mouse cincinnati.
Rafa is also lucky due to the immaturity and health problems of nole. rafa surely knows he is just counting his lucky stars, just like the phony fred (the sportsmanship winner...lol). no one feels sorry for clowns who call nole a joke and lucky uninjured player. we all know what happened to the fred copycat Roddick when he opened his ugly mouth and ridiculed the goat nole with a violent confrontation in the locker room.

No cause even if Rafa was seeded no.5 and Federer was seeded no.1, everyone knew who was gonna win. It's like Serena, for the most part of her career she was not seeded no.1 because of her injuries like Rafa, but everyone knew she was the best and favorite against whoever was seeded no.1.

9-2 and 23-10
yeah I brought it up :)

The number of trolls continues to increase, I see.

yeah the OP's thread is obviously an attempt to troll Nadal fans, there was no point of asking the question the way he did. Nadal has nothing to do with the question asked, and everyone knows that his ranking suffered because of his many setbacks and injuries which affected his ranking and him missing many moments. He's freaking playing all 4 slams in the same year for the first time since 2011. THAT's real pressure, having to always comeback from injuries and prove yourself again, while Federer had the perfect injury free career and never missing a tournament.

"Has Any Player Played With More Pressure Than Roger Federer"......title of a thread posted almost exactly a year ago, on 8/22/14, by the very same McEnroeisanartist. The OP seems to be repeating himself much like my elderly relatives at Thanksgiving dinner. Should we be concerned?? Does he realize that this thread seems to be becoming a late summer ritual of some sort?? Is he so worried about the pressure on poor Roger that he keeps repeating this question, maybe even mumbling it to himself in bus stations on rainy nights?

No. The question is unanswerable in any case, but Roger said that once he won the FO in '09 everything after that was gravy. He has owned every major record in the sport and has sat in that position for 5 years. He's achieved everything at this point, so the pressure on him is miniscule compared to lower players, eternally chasing Roger's records and never getting close to him.

I always thought someone like Murray had more pressure especially after he lost all these grand slam finals, and especially at Wimbledon, I was really impressed the way he dealed with the pressure in 2013.
I have read several times that in Switzerland, people don't really go crazy about Federer and tennis, an the media are pretty quiet so he doesn't feel much pressure from the media, Murray on the other hand...well the media in UK.
Right now apparently Nishikori has a huge pressure from Japanese media, read this, very interesting http://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2015/08/project-45-was-nightmare-nishikori/55894/

So I think the country where you are from plays a big part of it. I have a Japanese friend, it's crazy what he told me, people in Japan who don't know much about tennis think Nishikori is the favourite of every match he plays, even when he plays Djokovic, whenever he lose it is a surprise and disappointment.

Good points Nishi, some countries puts tremendous pressure on the players - others are far more laid back in the 'sure we can cheer for you, but don't expect us to get overly exited'-manner

Yes Chanwan it is interesting these differences between countries
Lived in Australia for 2 years and it seemed more laid back in general in the media than my home country France (and way more positive) - even though Australian media love to talk about their players and sometimes sound really delusional ("Tomic being a favourite" at the AO 2012 from what I recall) they certainly don't add an extra pressure like it is the case in France or UK and I guess Japan.
