Head Instinct XL - 2 different weights

I've purchased 2 Head Instinct XL racquets from TW about 3 months about 4 months apart. The first racquet weighs 11.8 oz. strung - which equals the spec provided by TW on the racquet's web page. My 2nd Instinct XL weighs 12.25oz - nearly 1/2 heavier. Then a friend purchased an Instinct XL and his weighs 12.25 oz also.

All 3 racquets have the same string (LUX BB Alu) and were weighed on the same scale with no string dampener, overgrip or headtape. They are all the same grip size too.

I'm amazed that there could be a 1/2 oz difference in weight.

Has anybody seend this kind of discrepency in racquet weight before for the same model?

we have an RDC and....to make a long story short... the weights you mention are within the margin of error. the specs posted by TW are averaged from 3 frames. you should treat weight, balance, flex and swingweight as very broad markers and make-up any differences with cutsomization and prayer.

Dude, I've about had it with racket manufacturers.

I bought an Instinct Tour XL a few months back from TW. It weighs 12.1 strung. I later bought two more and was happily surprised that they also weigh 12.1 strung.

Now that I realize they are discontinued, I wanted to order 2 more but TW is out of my grip size. I ordered from somewhere else and got two with black butt caps (my original 3 have silver butt caps). Both of these weigh 12.6 strung. A half ounce? Give me a freakin break.

For starters, if you're trying to buy more, at least make sure they have the same color butt cap!

I've had the half ounce difference problem with other manufacturers as well.

This is very consistent with what I encountered. The black butt cap models weigh approx 0.5 oz more. I have received a silver butt cap model originally, then a black butt cap model with a purchase a few months later. I can understand 1/8 or even 1/4 ounce difference attributed to "tolerance", but 1/2 ounce? I never paid much attention to this kind of stuff, but even a guy like me can feel the difference when swinging the racquets.

To the folks at Head - Come on! The difference in these two racquets is making making me absolutely schizophrenic. You're killing me, just killing me...

I used to play with Head LM Instinct XLs. I had two of them. One was a 3/8 size grip, and the other, 1/4. The 3/8 one's balance was 1-2 pts. more headlight than the 1/4. I found out this out through the ghetto method of measuring balance on the table. It's probably not an accurate method of finding out specs, but I could feel the difference when swinging them.

I have heard of this happening before, but I have owned ~25 rackets and always the specs that I could measure were right on the button!

Sorry to hear about this, I would just use lead to bring it up to specs, heck I have read that even pros have to have this done

What's worse is that a 4 3/8 grip size with the black cap is 1/8 larger than a 4 3/8 grip size with the silver cap. I could tell right away just from holding the racket, but I confirmed by measuring with a tape measure.
