Head Radical Microgel MP

A few days ago I found a Head Radical Microgel MP in my house. I used to play with it as a kid, but swapped it later now. I want to try it out again after a few years, but with 295 grams it will probably be too light. I am on the look for a new racquet and the Radical MP, Prestige 360+ tour and Blade 16x19 are on my list. Is it possible to make the Radical Microgel play a bit like those racquets and if so where do I need to put some extra weight?

Yes you can try. The Microgel Radical is a good racquet IMHO.

To start

2g lead at 12
8g in the butt.

Other combos.

1g 12
1g each at 9 and 3
9g in the butt.

The other main issue will be that the Microgel will always remain 18x20 vs 16x19, 18x19, 16x19

So you could use a thinner shaped main string and thinner round string at a lower tension to recover some power, spin and launch angle.

thanks, I used the racquet comparison tool and it showed me that the Radical has a very tiny sweet zone. Is that really a big problem wit the racquet?

Honestly I have stopped caring for these sort of tools...

The 18x20 really opens up with shaped mains / round crosses in 18/17L gauge at lowish tension of say 46/43 (but you will need to add extra lead in the head to recover some swingweight)

Adding lead at 9,3,12 can also help open up the sweetspot.

If that doesnt work and you have the original version and it is in decent shape and want to get rid of it PM me.

Thanks. I will order some lead tape and a leather grip + I will put some new strings in. If it still doesnt work I will PM you. I dont know if you played with the racquet but would you say that the racquet has a decent sweetspot or not? My footwork is not amazing so a small sweetspot will definitly hurt me a lot

I have in the past - I didnt really find it that different from other tight pattern 18x20 frames. I have pretty poor footwork myself but I can hammer them when they in a certain range.

Im a social/rec level 3.5-4.0 tennis player so you can take my advice with the required grains of salt.... :-D

I am playing for about 10 years now, but I can’t find a site which showes what my ranking would be in the American system.
