Help me understannd the seeding arrangement at Las Vegas ?

Nick Irons

Semi-Pro
I noticed that Hewitt and Safin, seeded 2 and 3 respectively, are squaring off in their Semifinal showdown and it struck me as odd. I have always understood seeding placements to be as:

1
8

4
5

3
6

2
7

In this manner; you ensure a 1 and 2 Seeded Player(s) in the finals (If seeds advance)
-

The placement of the seeds at this tourney are/is (where we still can get a 1,2 Final)

1
6

4
8

5
3

7
2

Obviously, not from Day 1, Round 1 as the seeds are playing a bunch of scrubbies; it is not until the Finals Round where we see the results of the seeds. But from the start of the Finals, we get an unbalanced Seeding arrangement.

If Blake, The Number 1 Seed had advanced, he would have been playing the Number 6 Seed at the start of the Finals Round. This does not appear to be the correct way ? Should he not be facing the Number 8 Seed going into this Round ?

Shouldn't, as is the best case scenario, Blake be facing Hewitt in the Finals ? But even better, should not Hewitt be playing the 4th or 5th Seed in the Semi's and NOT the 3rd Seeded Safin ?

(My head hurts now)

Am I missing something ?

3 and 4 are not placed, they are drawn to determine which goes into the top and which goes into the bottom so yes, 2 and 3 can meet in the semi's in any ATP tournament.
