How awful must Karlovic's "game" be to still be so little success with that serve.

Oh and super agile basketball players does not always equal great server. Just look at Monfils

Who said anything about Monfils? I didn't realize he played basketball. Or is a super agile 6'8'' dude (what is he 6'4"? we were talking about 6'10 Karlovic).

oh, and Monfils served 34 aces in a 3 set match at Wimbledon this year, not sure more than a handful of guys on tour are capable of that. Yeah his serve is 'just good.'

By the way Querrey beat Karlovic in a tie breaker in the third set today at Cincy. Good to see Querry win more than 2 matches in a row.

I haven't seen Karlovic having so much success although having a big serve. Players aren't that scared of his serves, players try to block the serves then after it's gonna be easy. His game is completly awful, any tennis players on this forum can beat him.
Roddick's serve is way better than Karlovic's serve because i haven't heard Karlovic serving a 155mph serve.

This is why I always laugh at people who say that Andy Roddick is nothing but a serve. If that were true he wouldn't be in the top five he'd be where Karlovic is now.

I'm going with the assumption that you are joking with this quote, to which I agree with the humor. The guy is 40 in the world...he's a great player.

Monfils is one of the most overrated players on tour. People assume he is a great athlete just because he looks like a basketball player. If he really he is, then he must have shown none of what he is in the multiples times I have seen him play. Those times I have seen him play he looks clumsy, not very agile, not that fast even in full sprint, and it not like he ever displayed any great signs of leaping ability or anything else that mark great athleticsm.

His strokes other then his serve are nothing special. His groundstrokes and returns are Roddick-like, hit with too much spin, bad technique, and far too far behind the baseline. Even if his serve is very good, it is still not equal to Roddick's, so he wont get into the top 5 by virtue of his serve mainly alone like Roddick. His current ranking speaks to his ability, and when I see him play I am never that surprised he is ranked where he is.

There's some humor in it but you have to agree that Karlovic's game is awful and that Roddick's serve is way better than Karlovic.

He isn't "nothing but a serve", but he does rely too much on his service. The rest of his game isn't top 10 without it.

he is the most physically talented player in the history of the game, he can serve 140mph, he can hit a forehand 120mph, he is the fastest player on the tour, although by no means the best mover.

Did you miss the earlier post. Here are his results against top 50 players this year.

Carlos Moya: 21 aces - LOST
Jurgen Melzer: 27 aces - LOST
James Blake (#6): 29 aces - WON
Mardy Fish: 17 aces - WON
Benjamin Becker: 27 aces - WON
Andy Murray (#13): 26 aces (great return of serve) - LOST

James Blake (#: 22 aces - WON
Jonas Bjorkman: 32 aces - LOST

Arnaud Clement: 16 aces - LOST
Stanislas Wawrinka: 10 aces - WON
Dmitry Tursunov: 16 aces - WON
Arnaud Clement: 21 aces - WON

11 wins, 5 loses. That's quality opponents. Compare that to 0 wins against top 40 opponents for James Blake. Who's Ivo beating? Answer: a hell of a lot of the best players in the game. In his career his got a lot of wins over top 10 players. Not getting deep enough in tournaments?!! He's won 2 ATP tournaments this year and was runner up another time. :D

I admit he ain't the greatest player out there, but he's having a damned good year 21-10 in singles, and he's probably the most dangerous player for the top seeds in any tournament. I know ROddick has said that the first thing he looks at in the draw is to see where Ivo is.

Eh. This list just proves how bad he is. Where are the guys that are consistently top 10s. Where's Federer? Nadal? Djokovic? Roddick? Davydenko? You usually meat them at around the 4th round or quarter finals. He doesn't even have enough skills to meet and challenge them with his serves because he can't even get past average top 20-50 players.

What about Blake? He hadn't beaten any Top40 this year, until last week !!!!

153 mph one month ago. And on a NON GETRONICS gun. That's tied for the fastest serve ever at an ATP event.

Thank you very much.

Unfortunately Monfils has turned into another Safin/Youznhy, a man with great talent and a total headcase. How can you lose in the first round of a second rate tourney like Cincy?

Bit harsh to say he's turned into anything, he's still young, plenty of time to improve yet, not everyone is knocking on the door at 19!
