How did you find your purpose?

What is wired in human brain is the need to relax and discharge the electricity accumulated. There are many ways to do this. One of them is meditation. What praying does is the same as meditation. Going into nature makes a similar affect.
For me, tennis is meditation.

For me, tennis is masturbation. You would be better in any match longer than two minutes. After the quick electricity release, I lose interest.

I have only been to NYC once (trip with wife), and turned out I was the one who couldn't get enough shows. Didn't see that coming. I can't do the full musical thing either, but absolutely loved Spamolat. That said, I'm not sure there is a format of Monty Python that I would not watch. Run away ... But I'm not dead yet .....

Yeah. For some reason they dont seem to or if they do its not funny to them. Omg that conversation piece on the meaning of life!! Hysterical. My take is that Bill Burr got it right in that they cant stand us being content doing nothing and being happy, so they want no part of those kind of things like Monty Python...

If you search for purpose you will often find nothing.

True. But looking after your loved ones, especially the old, can give you a lot of purpose or a feeling of meaning to life.

Warning: Domestic venting to follow ... which is incredibly strange on a tennis message board ... it's Shroud's fault with all this "purpose filled life" quest stuff
Purpose is a luxury item, like liberty and rights ... most of the people debating them aren't hungry or cold. You can't eat Purpose , and you can't cover yourself at night with human rights to protect you from the cold. Our purpose should have been a collective purpose to shield the losers (and ourselves) from the horrors and risk of life on this rock. We all need robust common good insurance ... instead we pick eat your own kill laissez-faire mass inequality, most at risk from losing everything with a healthcare bankruptcy. That's for those with something to lose, I heard 50% of the population don't have $400 in discretionary $ in the case of an emergency. It takes capitalism to create wealth ... but that never meant it had to be trickle-down.
Don't make me whip out my Observation Notes.
btw... where does Atheist human rights come from?
Watch this video, and consider where we are going. We are going there ... regardless of ideology or economic theory... it's just a matter of "how fast". If progressive taxation gets one's panties in a wad... they are not going to deal with this future well ... where large parts of the population will have to find "purpose" in other places than job and income.

If robots create enormous prosperity, everyone can have their basic needs taken care of without paying anything, and spend their time on tennis and other activities, including improving the robots. Work is a middle-class ethic which exists by turning a necessity into a virtue.

Yes ... a future without scarcity blows a giant hole in the entire "work provides dignity" and "teach a man to fish" constructs. I read your list in another thread about likely candidates of jobs that will cease to exist for humans (good list ... think you posted that in August).
Many have no idea (I didn't) that 15% of all jobs are transportation related, and driverless veichles are basically here ... not a distant fantasy. This can happen faster than people know.
Now try and imagine the mindset of a population that can't even agree on universal healthcare having to design the safetynet and income system for a population where 50% do not work for income. Hell ... not only have we let the muscles of government atrophy ... we have a population that views government as an evil. When half your elected officials are sent to make sure government doesn't do anything ... you can be sure it won't be able to when it's the only option.
