How good is this?

Okay, guys. I want an answer. Just how high is the level of tennis that he produces in this match(and in general during this period of his career)? To my subjective eyes(all though it's just a highlight video, I also saw this live, back in the "old days"), this is clearly the highest level that any player has produced. Especially if you take into account the extremely long period of time that he sustained this level. Day in day out. Watching videos like this, it really strikes me how this weak era nonsense is total bs. Fed was really just THAT GOOD. Blake was certainly no scrub back then either(just having blown Nadal off the court in the semis, if I remember correctly). And damn, his style is just yummmy!!!! Enjoy.

Federer beat Nadal in the SF's. Blake beat Nalbandian.

You're probably thinking of IW 2006 when Blake beat Nadal in the SF's. Great video though.

Saw the title and predicted another Fed thread. Yup.

Well, he is the GOAT so ;).... personally I just think you're disappointed that Novak has one great season to pick from, and Federer has 4 or 5, but that's just my opinion.

Hmm, one???
That would mean your idol is either extremely inefficient or you are not quite objective. None of the King's achievements are 4 or 5x of Novak's...

Fed's great seasons

04-07 and 09 (2 or more slams)

Novak's great seasons (2011)

Novak's great seasons (2011)

1) no one asked about number of slams per season, but the great season.
2) 2011 is not the only one for ND - but pretty much 2011 - present.

This year is another one, definitely, especially with everything that happened to him off the court.

According to your representation, fed has 5, Novak has 1. Yet, the total number of slams is not 5:1, number of masters not 5:1, earnings - not, total winnings, not 5:1, etc. efficiency.

No matter how many times I see this, I always have to laugh at how stupidly high Federer's level of play was. I remember watching this as a kid and wondering whether tennis is that easy or it just looks that way.

It really is ridiculous, which is why I  so much when people were saying his backhand was better than ever in 2012. His level was just silly back then.

"Novak indoors is the new benchmark" lol... how quickly we forget.

Well, they've gotta give the current play some kind of exaggerated description if they want to keep up the interest in the sport after the incredible rivalries and matches we've had in recent years. We are spoiled really :)

This is one of the best Fed ever played. Ridiculous level.

I believe matches like this, UO 2005 SF etc are better indicators of Federer's quality rather than like UO 2004 F, AO 2009 QF etc because in the case of former matches the opponents too were playing really good. Blake in this case in 2nd and 3rd set.

But I'm sure the game to beat Roger is grinding him down rather than out-hitting him. It's almost impossible to play better attacking tennis than him. May be it was in that direction coaches of Rafa, Nole and Andy went when tackling him.
