How to verify Gift Card Amount and Validity?

How to verify Gift Card Amount and Validity? Say if I'll use it in the future. I don't want surprise that the system says my gift card is invalid. Thanks.

Our system can track the gift card number. We will be able to tell if it's been used or not and the amount left on the card.
