How would 2009-2010 Soderling do today?

Robin was very consistent at the time, from the 2009 FO until the 2011 FO only twice he lost to players other than Federer and Nadal in Slams (but on the other hand he beat both at the FO in 09/10). Given the tour is so weak with Federer being almost irrelevant, Nadal being irrelevant outside of clay, Djokovic unable to reproduce his 11 and early 12 form with Murray looking likely to be no 1 soon (sic!), how would THAT Robin do today? Would he do better than, say, David Ferrer who's taking full advantage of some of the big guys slipping in the rankings?

I think he would be doing well. Not winning slams, but being a good fighter and getting some consistent results. I miss the guy!

AO,Wimby,USO: QF/SF, maybe a final at AO.
RG: F/W
1-2 more M1000
RR stage at the WTF, maybe 1 semi.
Ranking: Could be part of top 4 but #5 is more likely.

AO and RG are his best shots for a slam imo, surely would've been higher ranked than Ferrer/Berdych/Tsonga et all. He didn't like being rushed on his shots imo.

Why doesn't he come back? I'm a swede and he was the only top 100 player we have. I mean his illnes shouldn't it be cured by now? Is it a motivation problem or a Medical one?

He has said that he would come back if he could but his illness (or the after-effects) still leaves him fatigued when he attempts a full training schedule. There is also a hint of slight loss of motivation as he admits he is not as frustrated by his inability to come back as he used to be. Sounds as if he has become more used to the idea that he may never return.

He had winning head to heads over Tsonga, Berdych, Ferrer, etc. Not hard to believe he'd be #3 in the world right now, and would be going far in slams. He'd maybe even pick one up.

Such a shame, I really enjoyed watching him play.

Soderling was a flash in the pan.. Unreal this bum gets all that hype. Once in a blue moon he could catch fire, but he could STINK the joint up just as bad.

Look no further than the French Open finals in 2009. He played amazing vs. Rafa only to look like a junior levels player in the finals

He was a pretty solid player, but at his best he was about equal with Berdych or Tsonga today. I doubt he would reach a slam final with today's field. He probably would have been ranked around 7 or so.

Well, at the same time he would destroy Pete on any day on any surface, I am pretty sure, too bad he had to play in the Era of The Greatest of All Time plus the second and the third greatest, Nadal and Novak.

Soderling wouldn't have a chance today. It's just too competitive out there now. According to Federer, Federer is playing his best tennis of his life, losing in 1st and second rounds of tournaments. Also, Nadal is playing better than ever, losing in Wimbly 1st round, and taking many victory vacations to celebrate his increasing level of play. So I don't think 2009-2010 would have any chance.. would probably be scrapping by at Futures and mopping Mcdonalds floors in between tournies to earn some extra cash
