I am back playing tennis again after 7 months

I have played during that 7 months about 15 times through and 8 being on the ball machine in Carefree, AZ. The other few times in Clinics and against random park players .

I played last week again a total hack and I only won 6-4 because I double faulted 2 games away.

Today I played a weak 4.5 and lost 6-2 because i Was just too rusty .

I have changed my service toss to a lower toss and my serve has vastly improved. My pro is not happy about this but serving with a high toss has been a total disaster for me. My serve is far more explosive with the low toss and feels more normal.

My kick serve is so inconsistent that I only use it as a change up serve about 3 times per set.
My second serve is my weakest shot and looks like a beginner !!
My first serve was pretty solid today and my backhand was super consistent and most of my errors were on my FH because of 18 month old strings !!!

I am pretty confident I could get to a low level 4.5

Totally on that low toss track myself. Get lots o hazzle about that but it works better for me. So just do whats best for you and remind that Pro that there is GOLD in your moniker.

Come to think of it, Shroud is a fitting moniker for me because sooo much tennis wisdom is shrouded from me...

The low toss also keeps your arm from STOPPING and losing acceleration and kinetic energy.
Also the ball can travel faster because it's going less distance and hence less gravity effected

Wow. is it true that people in the BAY AREA are being covered by ASH from the fires in NAPA valley

Keep the low toss and also work on the top spin/slice as your 2nd. You don't need a kicker if your service is reasonably accurate. Weak kickers are sitters.

Ash? No but its is smokey and smells like fire. People are wearing masks and the sun is partially blocked. Its like being in Riverside with a smoke incense...

I used to keep a blog on my tennis exploits. It was fun for a while but then I realized I was paying $90/year to godaddy so no one but me would read them. :) It was fun logging my weekly league matches citing what went right and wrong. The really fun part was following my own progression from court 4 to being the #1 seed in our inter-club league.

First I will take on the neighborhood scrap players !!!
Then its 4.0 guys
Then who knows.. US OPEN 2018 lol

My serve is still weak but I have improved it with lower toss and more wrist action. I still fail to get the racket drop and I still move my elbow too much on the serve by dropping it down. I also bring my arm too forward which you should not.

My second serve is wear things go SOUTH FOR ME and it costs me many matches.

My strengths are consistent groundies on both sides with Flat shots, Top spin and good slices. !!!!
I have average volleys and good return game

My greatest weapon was my court speed by that is in big decline with age !!!
I went from the fastest 4.0 guy in town to barely above average !!:(:(:(:(:(:(

Even 5.0 guys would comment on my speed back in the day ( they were playing on the next court not with me ) !!!!

I am skinny a rail but my legs dont move like they used too.

Just hit it underhand. An underhand second serve is perfectly useful, easy to master (since there's not really any mastery involved), and has to be better than this.

Funny I served well today but I just was so out of sink as this was my second match since February
I hate to make excuses but having 12 month strings causes me to miss dozens of easy short forehands

The Lower toss has increased my percentage from 30 percent to 60 percent first serves in and no loss of power

the lower toss is great for people who struggle with high toss
High toss is better for more advanced servers !!!

The guy I played was very good and aggressive but I could sense he may be a coke user as his personality was very high strung and intense but fun
