James Blake. :(

I really wanted him to win against Agassi tonight and then go on to win the whole thing. If he had won the US Open as a wild card and with everything he had gone through over the past 18 months, you can bet that there would be a movie out by this time next year on his incredible comeback story. I wanted to see his "Cinderella Story" continue, sort of like Jimmy Connors' run in 1991. I'll admit that I had tears in my eyes when he won against Nadal. He's one of the good guys and it would have been great to see him win it all.

He totally outplayed Agassi in the first two and a half sets. Just too bad that he woke up and came back down to earth and couldn't keep up his high level of play. For a while, it certainly looked like he was going to win in straight sets. It's rare to see someone do to Agassi what Agassi ususally does to his opponents. He had Agassi on the ropes and pretty frustrated, but just couldn't quite close the door. Such a shame really to let this great opportunity slip away. :(

I was pulling for James I'm disappointed he didn't advance. However, I don't feel sorry for him. Reason being he wasn't passive nor was he happy just to be on the same court as Andre. He was aggressive played his game and went for his shots. He didn't get tired in the five set he was still running down balls.

The main reason I dont feel sorry for James Blake is because at the end of the match he left everything on the court. That's all one can ask of any player.

James Blake didn't lose the match Andre Agassi won it.

I'm not sure if I totally agree. Blake's level fell off noticably in the second half of the 3rd set. I really didn't see Agassi raise his level all that much in the 3rd set (he did in the 4th, though, and I didn't get to see the 5th since USA/CBS cut me off :( ). Blake all of a sudden started missing ALL of his first serves and even double faluted a few times. He also stopped crushing his return of serves like he had been in the first two sets. It really seemed to me as if he started choking just a little bit as he was so close to the finish line. His big shots started going out, instead of falling in like earlier in the match, and he started making lots of unforced errors. Blake also had a lull during his match with Nadal in the 2nd set in which it seemed like he went to sleep for a set but was able to recover in the 3rd set. Tonight, he also seemed to have gone into a lull in the second half of the 3rd set but he was not able to snap out of it until the 5th set and by then it was a bit too late. He really needed to win that match in straight sets. I knew that if he allowed Agassi to win that 3rd set then he was in deep, deep trouble and would likely lose the match. When you have your opponent on the ropes you just can't let them come up for even a snippet of air. Once you have your opponent demoralized, you can't let your opponent regain his confidence. Mometum works in strange ways. It's just too bad that Blake wasn't able to maintain his focus for just a few more games in that crucial 3rd set. :(
