But without valiant efforts like hers, mass-produced items composed of non-biodegradable materials would take much too long to become "rare and valuable", and there would have been less tangible distinction between history-preserving 'collecting' and pathological 'hoarding'.
Honestly, every time I drop off some garbage at my local transfer station, I am always amazed by what constitutes 'trash' for some of my neighbors, and can't help but to feel bad for the people who designed and manufactured some of these items. Then again, I am still using the same towels I used in high school forty years ago, so my perspective may be quite a few SD away from the mean on this topic.
