I Need Help

I have the opportunity to purchase (via local craigslist) either a Alpha Axis Pro for $550 or an Eagnas 350 for $250. What should I do? Is the Eag-350 an ok stringer. I've heard all the bad press on Maxline/Eagnas, but the price is hard to beat. I have $600 to spend, but I could also use some new tires too. Thanks for any input, I'm picking one of them up tomorrow.

you should spend money on a stringer like it's an investment. you shouldn't have to buy another one ever again really. you get what you pay for.

Eagnas-350 is a copy of an older Prince Neos or Ektelon Model D (or H?), anyways, both are the same machine. Bar Clamps with a crank. If you don't plan on stringing fan patterns, the Eagnas is a great buy. As for the Axis Pro, a very good machine, you should be able to do any pattern.

The 350 is an older style mounting, as LilElvis described in my Hold Down Mount thread. The Axis is newer and much easier to use

I vote for the axis pro (that's what i have). For $300 more you're getting a very high quality machine and spring assisted swivel clamps. Let us know what you get :)

P.S.
Have you called the seller of the axis pro to see if maybe he'll lower the price a little?

Yes, and she's holding pretty firm, but I'm going to try again when we meet up tomorrow. I'm hoping $500 cash gets it. We'll see.

I missed out a couple of months ago when a Gamma Progression II with stand was listed for $400. I was the second person to call on it, and literally missed out on it by 45 mins the guy said. I was a little bummed to say the least.

Oh well, hopefully this one works out in my favor.

You might get the Eagnas for $200.

Depends on how deperate the guy is to sell the 350. I ran across a guy who was moving and had to sell quick. Flex 940 for $200, in the bay area. I was gonna get my friend who was close to him to pick it up for me, but it was already sold. Some ads on craigslist go fast, not even an hour after posting and thier gone.

Well, seller put up a good fight. She had the axis pro listed for $600 originally on the local c-list. During my enquirers on the stringer over email I hinted that I only had $500 max to spend hoping she would consider that price instead. She didn't and a long story short we settled on $550, which is exactly what I thought I would get it for, and the exact amount of cash I had on me at the time. Was that a fair/good price?

Turns out the seller is a local teaching pro who ventured into trying to start a Tennis shop specializing in women apparel/rackets. Her business was pretty good the first year, but went broke in its second. I was kind of surprised she was selling the stringer being a teaching pro and all, but I guess her lost is my gain.

The stringer is in great shape. It came with your basic tools, a cover, and a calibrator. No string or starting clamp though.

I'll try getting photos up shortly. The wife went out with the girls tonight and took the camera with her.

Congrats!

That's a fair price for an $800 machine, that was probably rarely used. I've noticed teaching pros are not overly concerned with stringing other than string tension.

Some guy near me wanted $500 for a Rev 4000. She could of got $650 to $700 for that machine if she just waited. Luckily you were able to talk her down. Too bad you could not get string with the machine. If she had a store, what happen to the string?

I asked if she had any string she wanted to get rid of, and she replied that she had sold all of her string inventory awhile ago, and only kept the type she used herself.

Another $100 for string + starting clamp (depends on type of string & clamp), you're good to go.

Congratulations and welcome to the $$aving club !

The guy I got my Flex 940 from, gave me a 25 sets+ of Gamma string worth about $200. They were all Demo - not for resale, so I used them to string clients racquets and don't charge them for string. I mostly string for recreational and semi league players. I'm wondering where I can get more like that.

Good price on a good machine that looks like it has been well maintained. Congratulations. Keep it clean and covered when not in use and it will treat you right.

Good job Rocky! The machine looks nice and well kept !

Hope I can find one like yours one day. The only machine people sold on my area C list so far was only Klipper :)
