If Djokovic wins French Open, 9th Grand Slam, compared to Sampras/Federer/Djokovic

If Djokovic wins the French Open in four days, it will be his 9th Grand Slam.

His Grand Slam haul will be 5 Australian, 1 French, 2 Wimbledon, and 1 US Open

At their 9th Grand Slam championship,
Sampras had 2 Australians, 0 French, 3 Wimbledons, and 4 US Opens.
Federer had 2 Australians, 0 French, 4 Wimbledons, and 3 US Opens.
Nadal had 1 Australian, 5 French, 2 Wimbledon, and 1 US Open

Hmm. Surprising to see how similar Nadal's and Djokovic's records are for the same number of Slams. Sampras and Federer are strikingly similar too.

The Djoker-Nadal pair's haul looks better to my eyes.

Quality > Quantity

Creme de la Creme
If Djoker wins, he will have, at the age of 28: 5 AOs, 2 Ws, 1 FO and 1 USO. The 15 of Fed at 28 included: 6 Ws, 5 USOs, 1 FO and 3 AOs. So, Fed has better quantity and "quality" (if quality means distribution).

If Novak wins FO then he will probably end up higher than Sampras. He already will have following advantages over Sampras:
1. Novak had much tougher competition with Nadal and Federer who are both far greater than Sampras while Sampras had a meth-head and cokehead as his main competition.
2. Novak beat Nadal and Federer at every slam while Sampras only beat Agassi at Wimbledon and USO. Never at AO and FO. As far as cokehead, Sampras only even played Becker at Wimbledon and that's it.
3. Career Grand Slam

I say couple of years and it won't even be a question that Novak is ahead of Sampras.

The thing is, Djokovic is 19-20 against Federer, and 21-23 against Nadal. He will likely end up with a winning record against both, with at least a dozen grand slams. All this while facing a tougher competition than Fed over the span of his career. Those numbers will make him the GOAT, at least in my opinion.

Actually if he beats Nadal 3 more times while still being behind him in slam count that will prove that H2H is meaningless. It will completely eliminate the one thing Nadal fans like to use in their arguments for GOAT hood. MUAHAHAHAHA

Sampras has a lot more weeks as number 1 than Novak present time. Its true that he probably had lesser opposition but its also true that the Big 4 are direct result of the homogenization started by the ATP. Against the line "but Roger and Nadal are past their prime now and there is not real opponent" Djokovic fans answer (rightfully so) you play the ones you get. Same apply for Sampras and he collected more Slams, more weeks as number and more WTFs ... at least for now.

The thing that Djokovic could really acomplish is to become the best one in his era like Federer, Sampras, Lendl and Borg did before him which leaves Nadal in the so call grey area between the white(Fed) and dark(Novak)

Well when you played over 40 matches vs both with close to 50% it doesnt matter who ends up with a couple of wins more.
