So what do you think? If Fed wins/loses in Australia, takes off the rest of the year, what do you think his year end rank would be. I still think he would be top 10.
probably still top 5 ranked ..
top 10 yeah, but top 5?
I think there is a time limit for any player to stop participating in tour before they coubt him out, not sure though what's that time limit exactly , will try to search and post again ..doesnt he have to "defend" all his points from last year? so if he didnt he would go down?
well you're assuming that the top 4 ranked behind him (Nadal-Davydenko-Ljubicic-Blake) will keep winning all the time and never get beaten occasionally like they always do .. my guess they will gain points and improve their position but not enough to make up the more than 3500 points separating him from his nearest rival (Nadal)
and so if we're saying that about the 4 ranked behind him , what it would be then for the rest of the remaining 10 ?!!

Top 50.
He would only keep the points for winning/reaching the final of the Australian Open, which is 1000/700 pts.
are you sure about that ?Top 50.

I think what the OP meant is , what if theoritically he kept his above 8000 race points when will he be overcome and by how many players ..
I understand that , read my post again plzHe would only have the race points he won from AO, the last event he played. The Race starts over each year with each player starting with 0 points, while the ranking "rolls over" 52 consecutive weeks, with each player keeping what they had at the end of the year.

psh....he'd still be #1....knowing he's alive and not putting him at #1 is just wrong
ditto , exactly my point ..Ok, I think I got ya now. So you're saying if Federer started the year with 8000 points and then did nothing, how long would it take for everybody else (if anybody could) catch up or possibly overtake him. Correct? If so, that seems impossible to me.
Freedom , this is probably not the place to say that but it's the first time i see your signature and i think it's very true and right if could be worldwide applied ..Top 30 seems reasonable. He would drop steadily throughout the year, but 700/1000 points from AO would probably still keep him in Top 30.
