*Impressions of Ashaway Dynamite/RDXmid

This string looks a bit different, a light lavender color, with a rough surface texture. After a playtest yesterday, this string (Zyex) provides a powerful, crisp response, yet also feels cushioned. If it holds up, and this string is known for durability, it's a winner.

The power or "pop" is at least 30% more than the Prince Synthetic Original with much better feel. The string is well-suited for the RDXmid, and the frame performs significantly better, as I predicted.

I've been using cheap $3-5 monofilaments all my life so any increase in performance is going to be very noticeable, and things like Laserfibre Supreme or Yonex will probably **** me out of the water.

With any kind of power string, the RDXmid is going to provide more than enough power. Ditto the RDXmidplus. I also noticed a big increase in performance in my IPrestige Mid with E-matrix versus Gosen Sheep micro.

Other strings I will try are the Babolat Brio (macro fibers), Yonex Tour 850, and Laserfibre Supreme. I know alot of you will say use Laserfibre Supreme and just forget the rest. Maybe so, but I still want to try what's out there. The important thing is finding multis which can keep their feel/tension for a good period of time.

ferrari, I totally agree with you about Dynamite. I really like the string. It's got almost sounds like the impossible string--powerful, soft, and durable. How much did you drop the tension from what you normally string PSG? I moved mine down from 57 to 50 lbs and it worked great. Also, are you using the Dynamite WB 16 or the Dynamite 17? I've only tried the 17.

I strung it up once over the summer (REALLY), and it's still going strong. Seriously, I've only strung it up once b/c if still feels great and it hasn't popped yet. I've probably played at least 5 or 6 matches with it, plus numerous hitting sessions and it still hasn't broken. This is in a 16x18 racquet too. It looks wrecked b/c of the cover being worn off and the Zyex fibers showing, but it still plays great.

I like to use a natural gut hybrid, but I'll have to say the Zyex lasts even longer. Feels a little different, but the stuff lasts.

I used a tension of 48lbs for the RDXmid, which is equivalent to about 55-56lbs regular synthetic. I used the 16 gauge, but it is a little thick, so I'll try the 17 gauge next time (the 17 gauge is light grey and not lavender !). The Dynamite actually increased the size of the sweetspot, and it's crisp, powerful, and cushiony all at the same time.

At 48lbs, Dynamite feels powerful and certainly wouldn't string any lower. With Yonex Tour, I'm thinking 56lbs, and LaserFibre Supreme 54lbs.

(I'm sure Dynamite does wonder for the Pro Extreme FT !).

This has got me thinking about using Ashaway Dynamite 17 in RDTi80, which lacked some pop and had a metallic feel with Prince Original. I'm sure Dynamite would correct this and maybe turn the Ti80 into a great racket. Aha !

So far, very little movement. The rough surface texture actually seems to hinder movement. The other main reason is that 16x18 is actually quite dense in a 90sq.in. frame (RDXmid), and there is less movement with denser strings. For example, in my IPrestige Mid at 44lbs with E-matrix, you'd think there would be alot of movement, but there is hardly any.

But with 16x18 in a 95sq.in./98sq.in. I'm sure there is more movement and it could get annoying to have to adjust the strings constantly. The most open pattern I've played with is PS6.0 95.

mark, Dynamite does move around a bit once it gets worn. ferrari's setup is pretty new. Every racquet's different, but they did move a bit in my Fischer. Not as much as some thinner syn guts, but they did move. Not a big problem. BTW, the coating shreds off, the string flattens a bit, and then you'll see the tan colored fibers underneath... seems to not affect performance much, just weird looking.

Uh-oh. Let's see how the exposed tan fibers look, I wouldn't want to ruin the overall effect of the RDXmid. Just kidding.

I'll probably be itching to try another multi before Dynamite becomes really worn anyway.

LF Supreme and Ashaway Dynamite are two of my string choices right now too
thanks to this board's recommendations. I would say the LF feels more crisp
in my experiences. Dynamite crosses will flatten out and sometimes make me
have concern about top-spin but I do not feel like it affects perfomance...

How would you compare dynamite with nxt 17? Love the playability of nxt but breaks in 6-10 hrs of play. Have 1 racquet w/ klip scorcher 16 love the durability but clearly less feel. Need some sort of balance and I love the price point on this string. I recently had a slight bout of TE and changed back to my fischer pro tour ft air carbon which has helped but looking for long term string. Both NXT and scorcher at 55 lbs. 4.5 all court player. Please help w/ feedback. Thanks.

I have played with NXT once in a demo racket. My impression is that the NXT is very soft and elastic, too elastic for my liking. With Dynamite, the ball bounces off very quickly but the strings don't deflect or pocket the ball much.

I find Dynamite much more comfortable and cushiony than monofilaments, about the same as E-matrix. But I doubt it's more comfortable than NXT.

Is the dynamite a comfortable string along the lines of nxt--even if it is close I would love to give it a spin. NXT durability is not acceptable and I have playing with a synthetic, klip scorcher, that is durable but not a great feel. I am looking for something in between. 4.5 all court player that likes dampened feel. Thanks for your input.

Try Unique Tournafibre Irradiated. A very underrated string. Makes a terrific alternative to NXT because it holds tension much better and lasts longer.

I have a few sets of dynamite 17g (I hv no previous experience w/ this string), I'm interested in trying this string in the new
babolat aeropro drive my wife just bought for me.
Can you folks suggest a suitable 'low' tension for dynamite 17g, that will work well w/ this racket? I'm thinking about stringing at approx. 50lbs tension w/ this string ( for additional topspin, I'm more interested in keep this racket's power under control and not hitting long). Thanks 4 yr reply.
