Djokovic described him as a nice guy, and he was exactly that in his interview for B92.
Very amiable, can joke around, while English is still a barrier - Hyeon Chung
Last summer the 19 year old Chung played Wawrinka at the US Open, but his 1st round match at the Australian Open with Novak Djokovic was the biggest one in his career so far. For two reasons - it was against the world number one, but also his role model.
"It was a splendid experience for me - on one hand I was happy and honored, on the other a bit nervous, especially prior to the match and at the start", said the Korean after his 3-6 2-6 4-6 loss.
"When I started to play tennis, I loved Federer, but later liked Djokovic more - especially when he won his first Australian Open in 2008. Mentally he is extremely strong, physically too, I liked him from the start", said the boy born in Suwon.
Chung showed good resistance against Djokovic, especially in the 1st and 3rd set, while the crowd were standing and applauding attractive points several times. However, the Korean teenager is aware that there is a lot of work ahead of him.
"First of all, I have to work on my serve and mental toughness. Also, I would like to come to the net more often, to improve my approach forward, and the return. There is also experience missing, I didn't play many best of five matches. This season I will focus more on ATP tournaments, and will play Challengers less", said the currently 52nd player in the world.
Chung also answered a question about his free time:
"Now I am learning English, watching series that will help me in that, like "Prison Break". I love movies, especially our Korean, I watch them all the time".
During the season break Chung didn't even touch the racket for four weeks - explanation is very simple, he was in army.
"Good experience for me, I served my country. We did all sorts of things - shooting, using gas masks, throwing grenades... Still, I would say that tennis is more demanding than army", Chung concluded.
