It's common on this board, for people to attack a thing, without ever trying it themselves, as if their very own experience is not valid. I could see if he tried it, cusping, and didn't agree that would be one thing, but he has not tried it nor even looked at joker, who is doing it off his fh anyway. It makes their opinion, independent of their own lack of experience. So the lack of getting any value out of a technique, is not dependent on anything but an uneducated, inexperienced opinion, which due to the lack of their own experience, is completely invalid. All over the board, we see this phenomenon. I call it: Dumbo

When I have done it on my own fh, it increases in speed and weight hugely. I just have not mastered the snap back yet, timing yet, enough, but when I do, the shot beats 5.0 players I train with, all three of them. They won't train with 4.0 guys, as they are not consistent enough and can't handle their shots and don't challenge them with any weight of shot/spin wise or pace.

How many other 60 yr. old guys here train with 5.0 guys or better? Anyone?

I hit with college players pretty often and some already with scholarships for next year....These are 5.0 and up for the most part. Most of my Dubs is with former college players, but I don't think most posters are hitting on this level often.

I'd be very careful trying to lose a lot of weight quickly by reducing carbs as suggested by many people these days. Yes this method can be very effective in weight loss but you have to remember that while you are doing this you may suffer changes in electrolyte composition and balance and thus can have many unwanted side effects including fainting on the tennis court.
The things is, you are better doing things at a slower rate. Perhaps just reduce the quantity of food slightly so you still have enough energy to fuel your muscles and train safely.
I would also suggest that at age 60, you are better doing some swimming than land based activities as exercise to lose weight or get fit because you are less likely to hurt your joints.
You don't want to kill your self in order to reach your goal. Go slow and steady.

This reminds me of the other thing you need to do in order to chase your goal of a high ranking in the 60's: stop with the self-delusion.

Rare for 60s guys to be accepted as hitting/playing partners by 5.0 players. They just don't hit with lower skilled guys! Too irritating for them. Congrats! Great to train with high quality hitters, although, it's very common for them to be self centered.

Another guy who doesn't have an experienced opinion, just a dumbo one.

If all you want in life is the gratification you feel by seeing things in black and white, then nothing is stopping you. Write whatever you want, declare it as truth, and block everyone who tells you anything you don't want to hear.

"I AM THE UNDISPUTED #1 60'S PLAYER ON THE PLANET!"
"I ALONE AT MY AGE CAN OUTHIT D1 COLLEGE PLAYERS WITH 100MPH GROUNDSTROKES!"
"I DENY THE EXISTENCE OF MY PLAYING RECORD BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN INJURED PRIOR TO EVERY LOSS I'VE EVER HAD AND BESIDES THAT IT'S ALL LIES!"
"I CUSP JUST LIKE DJOKOVIC!"
"I TAKE MY LEAD PLANT FOOT AND CROSS IT OVER BEHIND ME EVEN THOUGH THIS IS GIBBERISH, AND IT HAS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE!"

This way, even though you're an overweight hacker who gets blown off the court anywhere above 4.0, you can still be all-powerful God-King of the little realm inside your head. You and LeeD can e-meet for imaginary beers and trade stories about how much faster than the pros your serves are and can deny the existence of the videos where you wrist the ball into play like a twelve year old girl.

It doesn't seem like much worth wanting, though. And it certainly doesn't take all this prep-work.

What we know without a doubt from your size, age, record, and writing: you don't understand how to hit properly...you don't understand how good 5.0's and up are...you can't move well...and you don't win when you play.

There are real, honest fixes for these things. They all begin with the same step: get in shape.

Once you do that, you can work on your footwork, and you'll begin to understand why all your current posts on it sound so silly.

When you can get to balls in time, you can begin to worry about proper mechanics, and you'll begin to understand why all your current posts on THAT sound so silly.

And maybe, just maybe, you'll reach 4.5 and be able to compete in the 60's. That's an honest goal worth pursuing. I hope you choose to.

But if not, strongly consider Dungeons & Dragons. I think you'd find yourself right at home.
