So Djokovic's comment here provoked a thought:

He mentions "in the end we[the players] are the most important part of the sport." (In my initial reading I was hatin' at Djokovic as usual for making arrogant comments, at least this time involving Fed & Rafa as well...guess his "for us, everybody" makes up for it somewhat )
Nonetheless it provoked an interesting insight.
Do we watch tennis because we love the sport or do we watch tennis because we love to see Fed, Rafa, your favorite players playing?
What I mean is...if you were to casually tune in to the Tennis Channel and you love tennis (I assume most of you do since you're here), would you watch a match between any two ATP players? Or would you only watch it if you knew the players well and/or liked them?
In light of that, the poll question is directed at whether you watch tennis because you enjoy tennis in all its aspects, or whether you watch matches ONLY because your favorite player(s) are playing in it. Granted, players like Fed, Rafa, Nole, McEnroe, Borg, Connors, etc. were intersting to watch in their own rights, would you still watch tennis between two arbitrary ATP players because you enjoy the sport in all its aspects?
It's a simple choice, really. There is no gray area, IMO, because I am not saying you shouldn't favor your favorite players. You still like them and will watch them, sure, but it's like many other sports where you watch a game not because your team is playing but because you enjoy watching the sport. I know lots of people who watch, for example, several of the NFL games during Football season in the US even though they only support one or two team.
My answer, for the record, is that I only watch tennis when my favorite players are playing. In all due honesty I do not have the time to a job, college, and extracurriculars to casually tune in to any tennis match, and as a result I only follow my favorite players. If they all lose in round 1, I'll check back a week later to see who won a tournament. That's it.
