Is there a significant difference in control between Polys/Synthetic strings?

I'm beginning to get tired of polys simply because of the muted feel. I love the feel I get with synthetic guts or multis but they can snap at any given moment and are too powerful. At least that's what I think.

From a scientific point of view, is there a significant difference of playability between Poly's and synthetic/multi strings, or is it all in my head?

Just view poly and a stiff string and syngut/multi as a soft string, and there you go.
