I find it strange that 660 feet of gosen og sheep micro without the sheep writen on it in the reel is 35$ a reel, 3.95 a set. and forten sweet 17 is 2.99 a set and 49.99$ a reel.... why is gosen selling their reel for so cheap.... is it even the same string? the writing is different... I know TW says it is the same string... I would like to hear what others have to say if they have tried the reel string and the set purchase gosen og sheep micro.

It's the same string. Volkl has the same thing going, with a set running $6.95 and a reel running $99.95, whilst Topspin Cyberflash costs $7.49 a set and $74.95 for a reel. Different marketing strategies is the only reason I can assume...

so far the cylone doesnt look like a save at all.. 5.95 x 16.5 equals 99 bucks.. the reel is 99 bucks. it is the same as just buying packs lol.. lame!
cyberflash does look like a good deal, but not nearly as good as the gosen micro... its basically half off! anways... I should try cyberflash, but I have too much going on, and my ankle has been hurting me so i cant play everyday, and it would be tough to test strings at the moment. I just want to settle on something.... BC.....MSV Hex.

I heard that msv recommends using forten sweet 17 as a cross, anyone else heard this? and why...

I didn't know Forten Sweet and Gosen OG Sheep Micro were the same string... Good to know though; thanks!

I don't think so. Forten Sweet is a more stretchy string compared to Gosen OGSM. Also Gosen OGSM has a slight texture, where as Forten Sweet is smooth. Both strings are a monofiliment core with a bonded outter wraps and a covering, but they are not the same string. There are other strings that have the same physical characteristics, but don't perform the same.

The newer Gosen OGSM has the rainbow colored label and has printing on the string. The older stock OGSM has no printing on the string and has the old green and blue label. As for the cost, the price per reel did go up about 20%, and the set price up a buck. If you search carefully, you can still get a reel for $30, at some stores. What I'd like to see is the Red, Blue and Black OGSM in reels, I have to buy them in sets for $3.50.

Same with RPM Blast.

A set in Europe is €19.95, a 200 meter/660 feet reel can be had from €185 (official price) and down to €150 (if you have a good connection)

what happened to my thread lol, this is mainly what I was getting at.

og sheep micro... 3.95 x 16.5 equals 65$
the og reel is 35$.... thats a pretty good save! sweet 17 there is no save, unless you consider how much it stretches, I sometimes end up with 3-5 feet leftover after stringing. also if you consider he spinning ease aspect of measuring out your string to cut. anyways, og sheep, the writing on string differs between the reel string and the single pack set string. the word sheep is not used in the reel. thats what I was getting at. but TW says it is either the same string or performs the same.

On both label on the REEL it does say "SHEEP".

I don't measure using a ruler, I use the size of the frame.

well yes thank you for pointing that out, I didnt think of looking there, but I meant the string itself, i may have mentioned it earlier in the post. TW sells the reel and it is titled og micro.. not og sheep micro, but Tw does show that same picture. so hey on the reel label it says sheep, so that better be good enough for me. and I have the klipper stringer, so it has a 12 inch ruler image right on the side, it makes it very easy. how would you use the frame to measure? they have different legnths and headsizes...

For a 16x19 pattern, when I have to pull from reels, I first measure the head to the throat with the string, down the center. Count 8 lenghts then double it. Thats the for the mains. For the Crosses, I measure the width of the racket at it's widest point, 9 and half times, and double it. If it were a one piece job, I would mark the mains end with tape or a marker, then continue measuring. You can also mark the Short Side if you wish, 8 mains lengths.

Syn gut stretches up to 10% where as polys stretch about 5%. You may need a starting clamp to bridge the last pull before tie offs. But it happens very rarely.
