Jimmy Arias thinks Berdych is better than Wawrinka

He said that more than once on his Rogers Cup broadcasting and called Berdych numerous times "the Best player outside the Big 4".

I suppose it depends on what you value in a player. Berdych certainly has very clean strokes and good technique. But he isn't very mobile, lacks much fighting spirit, and doesn't have a huge amount of flair. Wawrinka at his best surpassed him in all three regards. Oh, and Wawrinka was probably fitter, too.

By the way, what's going on with Berdy? Last I heard, he was thinking of retiring, which I think is a shame. He was playing well in early 2019 before he got injured again. But perhaps he's just fed up of all the injuries.

Berdych's strokes might be technically superior to Wawrinka's but the ultimate aim of both out of their strokes is power and Wawrinka at his best surpasses him even in that inspite of the technique and "prettiness" and fluidity of the strokes. Stan's backhand is only technically pretty good, his forehand, serve, and volleys have awful technique, yet are remarkably effective, especialy the forehand and serve.

Arias is just an idiot in general though. All his commentary sucks. He called Seles the hardest female hitter ever in a match Serena Williams was powering her off the court at the Rogers Cup once.

He said when Safin beat Agassi at the 2004 Australian Open it was the first time anyone ever beat Agassi on a good day, that every other match he lost in his career was an off day.

He said Capriati usually has the edge in her matches with Davenport once (her career record is 3-11).

The absurdities are endless.

It sounds to me like he's talking out of his Arias.

The only thing that Berdych was good at throughout his career was as a foolproof remedy for insomnia.

Arias truly is the worst commentator after Shriver. I wish he would just stay at IMG and never open his mouth.

Were you mistakenly watching a repeat of the 2010 Rogers Cup? Berdych hasn't played well in 2 years and his peak level was 2010. Arias must be gobbling some heavy Opioids.

No I am 100% sure it was during broadcasts during the 2015 and 2016 Rogers Cup. Berdych was still playing well at that point but Stan was now a 2 slam winner (soon to be 3 time). I remember this specifically, and if it was in 2010 I wouldnt have thought twice about it as it would have made total sense.

You probably should have put that in your original post.

The Stanimal has been gone for so long that he's risen to mythical status. People no longer believe he was real.

The Stanimal turned out to be a paper tiger during the F0 2017 final and got gored by the Bull. It was a brutal contest for stanimal and TTW was heartbroken.

Several years ago I thought he was going to be the guy to break into the big 3 1/2 (Murray is the half). Instead it was Stan who broke in earning a few slams.
