Lack of Coverage in Junior Grand Slams

I wasn't sure where to post this thread...in the rant/rave section or here on the Juniors.

Well, my rant is about the lack of coverage in the Junior Grand Slams. How about the tennis channel and/or ESPN cover the Junior events instead of re-runs of previous concluded events. I'd really like to see the up and comers, who possibly in 2-3 years will make an inpact. Anyway, just had to vent...what are your thoughts?

These matches are not ratings winners.

No one would watch, well just the total fanatics.

This was discussed a few months ago, why the USTA and ESPN etc don't cover juniors.

Its about $.

Too much $ to produce too little $ coming in.

True. We tennis fanatics have to remember that most people channel flipping and hitting ESPN2 would watch those dogs jumping 40 feet into water before they would watch junior tennis. In fact once you get outside the top 5 ranked professional players the ratings get pretty bad.

Tennis Channel as you said would have to justify the production costs in order to broadcast the juniors.

C'mon guys...not even a 30 minute segment on the Tennis Channel? I can understand ESPN (bigger audience) not airing due to cost, but the the Tennis Channel should... be it anything and everything associated to tennis. I for one would like to see a 30 minute coverage on Juniors tennis...on a regular basis (from Little Mo, Les Petits, Orange Bowl, Easter Bowl, National Tournaments, etc.) than watch Tennis Destination or that bald guy show...whose name is Murphy:oops:.

The ratings argument does not hold much water, because whatever they are showing from 2 until 4 a.m. is low on ratings and is mostly watched by people who record it and watch it later, and that means the hard core fans. No big audience to be had.

The cost of production is key. Showing a re-run involves zero new production costs. Filming something you previously did not plan to film involves production costs, and generates a lot less revenue in the middle of the night than showing a paid tennis advertisement.

I would love to see more juniors, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles, but I will have to settle for being thankful that there is such a thing as the Tennis Channel in the first place.

"Filming something you did not previously plan to film..."

Ok. That's an interesting concept.
