Lendl's special events

Even if special events is a term that specifically referred to some events organized by the WCT but outside its circuit, I thought I'd title this thread with the title of another one that was created by Hoodjem and Colussi many years ago on Jimmy Connors .

In reality, it would be a matter of listing here the non-sanctioned ATP titles that Ivan Lendl, record holder of these tournaments, would have won.

I will list them in the next days.

I have six of these as elite, Masters 1000 equivalent titles:

1982 Molson Lite (that's your Toronto, I think);
1984 European Community Championships (Antwerp)
1985 ECC (Antwerp)
1985 Challenge of Champions (Atlanta - it looks like this might be Jericho on your list)
1987 ECC
1989 ECC

I don't know exactly, maybe there are other comparable titles or that some are M750.
The reason for the thread is to include all the non-sanctioned tournaments won by Lendl.

Antwerp was big! And if a player won it 3 times in 5 years they won the gold and diamond racket. Lendl later auctioned his:

At the exhibition in Barcelona, during the initial week of May '87, Lendl triumphed over Leconte with a score of 6-4, 6-0 in 66 minutes, and Wilander with a double bagel. Wilander failed to bring his racquets along to Barcelona.

I watched all the exhibition matches played by the four players as Radio Televisión Española broadcasted them.

I'd like to highlight something. I encountered no Spanish tennis enthusiast who disdained Lendl's tennis or his persona but the converse.

Nor in Mexico or Latin America. In Mexico in those days the commentators called him "La Maquina".

J'aimerais souligner quelque chose.

"Yesterday, Lendl added his third victory in a set by 6-0, and, although he did not overwhelm* Leconte, the power of his strokes was an exhibition in the purest sense of the word. Lendl, who even joked -something rare from him- when a dog entered the court, has improved tremendously in his baseline game from last season. Lendl's strokes are so deep and powerful that they are as aggressive as a Mcenroe volley.

John Mcenroe encountered a very subdued Wilander. The Swedish player has not yet recovered the rackets lost on his trip from New York, and yesterday demanded to delay the start of the match to await their arrival. But the racquets are still lost in some airport, and Wilander had to play with a racquet bought in a Barcelona store, which has neither the proper tension of the strings nor the ideal weight or the grip that the Swede likes."

*He utterly crushed the Frenchman, who could only win three games.

It surprised me that Wilander was considered the favorite to win the Roland Garros final against Lendl a month later.

@Drob It was a round-robin between the four players, and following the rules of the round-robin, it was played. However, I would like to point out that there was no semi-final and subsequent final.

Ivan was unhappy with the tennis he played in Hamburg in soaked weather (even if he plunged Mecir quickly into Abulia), and two days later, he was in entirely opposite conditions. Lendl was very aggressive with his opponents. He needed to regain confidence in his ability to finish points quickly.

Only Leconte played listless and apathetic. Wilander showed irritation in his defeats against John and Ivan.
