Let's go Querrey!

Won his first round match last night in Memphis, a tough one against Istomin and should win his second rounder to probably meet Fish.

I watched him play in San Jose, and it wasn't any one thing that led to his loss. He has a fantastic serve, huge FH. He hit the ball really hard.

BUT...he never comes to net. With his size, he should be able to put points away with a huge FH and rush to the net. AND he got tight on a big point in the first round tiebreaker, double faulting. Choking is his speciality.
He needs better coaching and match strategy and maybe a sports psychologist.

On a side note, in San Jose, he gave his racket to a kid sitting right in front of me. Pretty cool.

Sounds good, but 1 match doesn't make a season as they say. If sam can get to semi or win the tournament, i think that is a good sign.

Yeah, it's been tough. He excels at small events and caves at Slams. Now he's been caving at smaller events.

He's got that huge serve and some smooth strokes ... I hope he goes far, but I see some confused shot selection and tentative movement, especially the reluctance to transition.
He ought to adopt more of the Tsonga style, playing with more chutzpah. Or the way Del Potro played in the summer of 2010. I think he can really pull that off, given his body type and his strokes.

Anyway, I bet he gets bench space for the next Davis Cup tie....and hopefully he can rebuild in time for Wimbledon and the summer hardcourt swing back here in NA.

Yea Sam has a bit of the Murray syndrom going on. Seems like he needs to get his motivation back and find the fire to keep improving.

According to the tennisography on the tennis channel after Sam hurt his arm last year he found love for the game again and remembered how lucky he really was to be out there again competing.

HUGE matchup with Fish....4 vs 5. This is going to be great...hope Querrey can get the win and make some noise at this event to get back on track.

Well, he made some progress at least.

Again, he needs to come in more and use that great height to his advantage.

I think that would be a great addition to his game and i'm sure he would do it more if he had more confidence in his vollies.

I'm disappointed by him losing at Fish so categorically.

Sometimes his only reply is hitting the ball harder. He should learn some variety.

he is not coming to net...he did not learn to play that way...same as most of the others. They grow up playing baseline grind tennis. All good until you meet someone in a tournament that plays the same way...just better. No plan B. Murray same...everyone talks about how talented he is at net...I don't see it. He is not comfortable up there. He is the third or fourth best baseliner in the game...hence his rank. As crazy as it sounds, Rafa is one of the few pros I have seen really come to net a lot against their nature at times and he is pretty good up there. Too many people do what Querry does better..having said that, he can get in top 20 or 30 and that is pretty good for any pro.

Samarai looks like he's making a conscious effort to come to net more often and it seems to be working well so far. Nonetheless, Kei N is a tough out and would be a significant win.
