Liquidating Tennis Mag Collection

I'm moving soon, and over the years I have accumulated a whole bunch of tennis magazines, tournament programs (from places such as the Aus Open, Monte Carlo Masters, etc.), and Davis Cup programs, posters, etc. Friends abroad send me these things, and they are great. Except I don't want to move them.

I could sell some of them on e-bay -- particularly the ones which have been signed. But I thought I'd see if anyone here was interested in them.

I know this is the wrong Board for this, but if you are looking for anything Andy Roddick related, I likely have it. I have virtually every mag that featured him since he turned pro. I stopped collecting them in the past year, but I have dozens from prior years, and some are signed.

I also have a ton of Pat Rafter stuff, including some signed items.

So e-mail me, or post a note below if you are looking for something in particular, so I can look for it as I weed things out. I'll likely keep all the Nadal stuff that I have -- since I'm working on his site, but everything else has to go.

I hope you will still have time to post when you move.

If you have anything on Ferrero please make sure it goes to a good home.

There is no point sending it to me in England

But I would be very interested to know if you have anything on the 2002 Australian Open where Thomas Johansson won.

Good luck with the move!!

Okay.

I'll put all the stuff in a box, except the autographed stuff, and see what I have.

Maybe I can send it to one person, and he/she can dole it out to others. I'd like to have the shipping paid for. :)

I have a few mags that may be worth some money, such as the W Magazine featuring Madonna. (It also had Andy in it.) It sold out right away.

I also have 3 copies of last year's Deuce mag, and a copy or two of the original Deuce.

I know I have Moya stuff, including a signed Moya poster. But I may keep that.

I'll check to see if I have the 2002 Aus Open program -- I very well might have it.

I'll let you all know.

Hmmm, Frodo, don't know what you mean about being cheeky. :?: And if you think I am cheeky and don't like me because of it, well, umm, okay.

I have a bunch of tennis stuff that I have to get rid of and I figured I'd check to see if there is any interest before I throw it out.

Now, I'm not going to throw out anything that is signed, that's a given. And there are a few "vintage" mags that I'm not going to give away. But other than that, I'm tossing.

And I'm not going to pay to have this stuff shipped someplace. I have piles of mags around here. That would be very expensive, even to US destinations.

It's kind of funny. I was cleaning up the Family Room today (remember, I have kids), and in the corner was a tennis ball. I was about to throw it out, and I realized it was signed by Andy. It's a bit worse for the wear, but yeah, the "Andy R." is there. My son Ryan put his name on it after Andy signed it, and then they used it to play tennis.

I'm going to give that away to an Andy fan who will send me a return envelope for it. :D

But I think I have a ball around here that is signed by Sandon Stolle and Paul Kilderry. Talk about a blast from the past. So again, I'd make the same offer. If I find it, I'll send it to the first person who send me a postage pre-paid envelope.

I also have a wonderful item signed by both Pat Rafter and John Newcombe celebrating both their ascension to No. 1. I got it for doing some work for the Rafters -- a big long story. But that definitely is something I won't give away.

Anyway, I have quite a bit of interest in the Roddick collection -- from Roddick fans, of course. So I'll work with them on those mags, and see what else I have.

But I have piles of stuff here, spanning 5 years or so. And I did think it's shame to put a large part of it in the dumpster.

Gosh, too bad the person who asked about items from Johansson's 2002 Aus Open win deleted his/her post.

I do have the Austrailan Open program from 2002. TJ isn't on the cover, though. The featured players are Guga, JCap, Hewitt, Venus, Agassi and Davenport. Anyway, I do have it. This thing weighs a ton, and kudos to the person from Aus who sent it to me.

More items:

Deuce, Inaugral Issue 2002, with Andre on the cover.

Official Programme from semi-final between USA and France Davis Cup, September 2002.

French Court Central Mag, May 2004, with Guga on the cover. Item on Rafael. (I have two copies of this mag.)

Tennis, September 2002, signed by Andy.

Eight postcards signed by Andy.

Aus Tennis December 2001, with Rafter on cover. Davis Cup drama.

Okay, I'm nearly through the piles next to my desk.

Thanks, Ty.

In any event, I have to call it a night, coz the people are coming over to take pics of our house tomorrow.

But I'll take note of the items you want. And most likely, you'll just need to pay to get them to your house. But as you can imagine, it's much easier for me to toss this stuff than to mail it somewhere at my expense.

But again, I realize that some of this stuff could mean things to certain fans, and I appreciate that, and that's why I started this thread. It meant a lot to me at the time, but I ended up scannig and saving the key stuff. And I will keep a few items myself, but right now, I'm focusing on keeping the Nadal info, plus a few meaningful items re Andy and Pat. Otherwise, I have to get rid of it. (I'm moving into a bigger house, actually, but this is a good time to separate the wheat from the chaffe.)

But I'll box this stuff up. And believe me, I have many more mags upstairs -- this is just what was handy -- i.e., stuff I have to move out of my study before the photographers get here tomorrow.

I'm not looking forward to going through the stuff upstairs. :p

But thanks for your interest. I'll be in touch.

Stitch626, I have a few signed Rafter items. I think I'll keep one, but I have a few others. Perhaps you can e-mail me at susan@vamosrafael.com.

Also, for Lleyton Hewitt fans, I have a Boxing Kangaroo flag signed by Lleyton from a Davis Cup event. It's not easy getting a Hewitt autograph, but this may be of interest to Aussie fans.

I have tons more; I didn't realize this until I started to think about moving. Yikes!

Yes, Frodo, I'm scamming posters, by offering to ship stuff overseas at no cost except for shipping. And I'm willing to do this while I'm trying to sell one house and buy another, work at my day job, keep the Rafael site updated, and take care of two kids!

But hey, I'm a woman. This is the minimum we have to do each day. I'm probably underworked than most.

I have received several e-mails, and I will try to accommodate all the requests. But I'm losing track of them a bit. At this point, I've only been through the mags downstairs -- not the upstairs collection. But I know people want them, so I haven't thrown them out. And I will expect to not have to absorb shipping charges to send these items. I'm only going to ask money for a few items, i.e., popular mags and signed items I know I get could get a good price for on e-bay. But those basically relate to Andy, so that excludes most of your requests.

In any event, I am busy right now with filling out escrow docs., etc., so I would ask those of you who are interested to keep e-mailing me about it. I will get it done. A few things are above that in terms of priority. :D But the stuff is boxed and set aside, by category. And believe me, I'm not moving it to the new house. I am glad, however, that other folks are interested in them. Nice to see that there are so many dedicated fans around here.

And no worries. I'm sure I'll start a new collection at the new house, and liquidate that in about 10 years.

Alas, I agree, Frodo -- I mean, Ty.

Perhaps some other time.

But onward and upward . . .

It's nice that others want various items, and will pay to have me ship it to them. So the post was worth it.

Now, I just have to keep my info straight on who is getting what. And I will need reminders on that, folks.

Now, no worries, the Andy stuff has been snapped up by Andy fans on another forum.

But if I haven't done a timely response to the rest of you, please remind me at susan@vamosrafael.com. I do have a lot going on, so if there's something you really want, keep reminding me -- you will get it!

But for once, tennis isn't the ONLY thing occupying my time.

But at the same time, if these tennis mags/memorabilia will be of interest to folks, it's worth the price of transmission. Otherwise, I will throw them out. And I'm glad to discover that folks are interested in them.
