Luxilon M2 ... what's the scoop on this string?

Hey Gang ... I currently use the Luxilon Big Banger Alu Fluoro (17g) at 54# (Head MicroGel Extreme midplus) ... in general, the Luxilon string is great ... only problem is that it is pretty harsh on my wrist and elbow ... consequently, I have been using the Fluoro which is supposedly a little "gentler" on the joints ... I'm hearing rumors that the Luxilon M2 is also a little more forgiving and is a "friendly" string ... was wondering if any of you have tried it yet ... if not, what have you heard about the string (pros / cons) ... thanks in advance for your comments!

I've been using the Luxilon M2 Plus ever since I got a free demo of it. All my racquets are currently strung with M2's so maybe I can give you some helpful reviews!

I used to use Big Banger Fluoro, and Big Banger Rough, before the M2 came out. Compared to the Fluoro, the M2 Plus offers a tad bit more feel, definitely a LOT more ball bite, therefore more spin potential. So far, it's very arm friendly, I haven't had a problem with my arms going numb or feeling any pain at all.

The M2 also offers great durability, and it doesn't move around, which is what I love about all Luxilon strings.

Overall, the M2's are just superior strings in every aspects, compared to the other Luxilon strings! Definitely try it out.

Hey, Zach ... thanks for your feedback and comments ... your recommendations sound pretty convincing and I'll probably give the M2 a try when I re-string ... as mentioned, I'm currently using a 17 gauge ... does the M2 also come in that size or do you recommend using the 16L ... if, yes ... why ... also, what's the relative cost of the M2 ... the fluoro is not cheap ... I imagine the M2 runs a little higher ... the fact that the M2 is not causing any wrist/arm problems is imporant for me to hear ... that's the primary reason why I use the fluoro ... do the rest of you concur with this positive review of the M2 ... does anyone have anything negative to say about the string ... let me know ... thanks!

I tried the M2 pro and i liked it quite a bit. But after it went dead and I cut it out I thought it would be too expensive to use regularly.

i used M2 pro in a pretty flexy open string patterned midplus over the summer. It was a couple months after I fractured my wrist, but I had no pain until then. I went to a tennis camp for 2 weeks. After a couple days, my wrist started to hurt, i was sure it was the string because that was the only thing i had changed. I just dealt with it, and after a while it went away.

I had pretty strong joints and bones, and it re-irritated my pain. If you have weak joints, id advise against it, but if not, go for it. Since my wrist is completely healed now, i would use it, but going for almost $20 a set, it is too much.

I've had some TE problems before from polys so I tried M2 17 to get control without the pain. I'm iffy on it, some days it really bothers my elbow others its alright. Its definently softer, but only compared to other Lux poly's. If you're looking for something softer, Code black is a better way to go.

... thanks for the feedback on the M2 ... hmmm ... I'm a little concerned now ... a few of you commented that the string may not be as arm/elbow friendly as I had first thought ... specifically, any more comments on how the M2 compares to the Fluoro ... I'm suspecting that the Fluoro might be a little more forgiving/"softer" than the M2 ... let me know what you folks think ... Thanks!

I have bought it but havent used it yet. Just by touch it still feels rather stiff like most polys.
If you want a softer string/good control/more power try Polystar energy instead.

I will try the M2Pro soon tho just to see what its like.

Hey, Meaghan ... thanks for the comments ... yes, please let us know how you like the M2 ... I see that you're playing with strings at the lower end of the tension range ... how do you feel the lower tension plays ... don't you have control difficulties with such low string tensions ... please comment, thanks ...

Hi Dave , no not at all, infact i feel i have better control as I get more spin.
Ive had 4hrs in with my Alu and ive made about 10 unforced errors.

I recently changed from 55lbs which was fine but thro a rcommendation I tried 45 and I was comfortable from the off, whereas I usually like a settling in period. So maybe I have always liked that tension, I just didnt know it had dropped that far??

Most important to me is the feel off the stings, a grippy feel. Some like a tight boardy crisp feel but I find control difficult with those tensions as I feel the ball just bounces off the strings. Also as an all courter/ S&V I love getting to the net and the softer tension adds to my touch shot.

I also have extreme grips on both sides so the lower tensions and spin i can generate with full westerns make it possible for me to play the aggressive game I like.

I always kinda knew i liked lower tensions as I seemed to play better when the strings had gone off completely, obviously there are control issues then, so with new strings at low tensions I get the best of both worlds.

Im trying the polystar today so Im looking foreward to that at these tensions.
Davydenko had it about 40lbs so why not !!

M2 Pro is definitely softer than Fluoro. Even when strung 5 lbs higher, M2 Pro is softer than Fluoro.

I've been using Fluoro for several months and blow through it pretty quick. I figure I get about 15 hrs out of a set. Tried one set of M2. Felt pretty much the same to me as Fluoro and broke a little sooner. Decided against adding it to my inventory. Expensive and didn't really distinguish itself.

My guess is that you don't have any arm problem.

Only when you have had a serious arm problem does your arm become sensitive enough to feel even the minute differences in stiffness.

... Hey, everyone ... thanks for your comments on the M2 ... hmmm ... I think I probably will give it a try ... I guess we tennis players are suckers for any kind of new or different string ... suppose it's kinda like looking for that Holy Grail ... the never ending search for the perfect string (... of course there is none) ... yes, I'm interested primarily in the "arm friendliness" of the M2 ... like I said ... the Fluoro is pretty forgiving and I like it's playability ... I guess I should try the M2 and make my own comparison and judgment ... SURVEY SAYS ...

... hey, Meags ... thanks for the comments/information ... I liked that part about 10 unforced e's in a four hour period (... *smile* ... you can't see me but I'm giving you that "... I'm not worthy" two arms in the air bow here) ... sounds like that lower tension is really working for you ... my gawd ... 40#s for Davydenko ... hard to believe, huh ... but maybe something for me to consider (lowering the tension but NOT down to 40 )...

Just played last night (2hrs) and had about 40 UE's haha!!

Think thats about the limit of my alu power (4-6hrs) combined with the fact I didnt play well at all......:(

... sorry, Meags ... didn't mean to jinx you ... well, look on the bright side ... now you have an excuse to cut out the strings ... and ... maybe re-string with the M2 ... let me know how it plays ... and, hopefully, fewer UEs the next time you play ...
