Madrid's Line calls are the worst ever

I wonder why the line calls are so terrible at this event. Its a masters, so I hope line judges have had some experience before this event.

The commentators on The Tennis Channel go out of their way to mention how terrible the line calls have been at this event, and that speaks volume.

Those line judges should not be judges unless they have great eyesight. Almost makes you want to do away with them, and get a whole court system that will call all lines in real time.

I think the addition of instant replay at certain events and courts has allowed the linesmen and chair umpire at times to be too relaxed.

You would definately think that they would hire better judges.

Fact of it is though, they are only human, and if they blink at the wrong second or lose focus for a second they can miss the call. I would imagine the calls get worse near the ends of matches when points matter more because they are out there for so long they are getting tired. Them getting tired and blowing a couple more calls mixed with the points mattering more since it's the end of the match can make it seem worse than it is.

At Nasdaq, I sat like two feet from a linesman who wore sunglasses.

He was calling a Kournikova match.

The whole match he wasn't looking at any lines except the one between her legs.

It was so obvious. I wasn't the only one who noticed either.

I agree the line call are freaking pathetic. I dont remember ever seeing so many challenges go the players way either. Good thing we have the system in place otherwise I fear there would be quite a few more players blowing their lids and going off during the matches(kind like fish did in his match)

Reminds me of some of the line calls years ago in Davis Cup matches in South America. I think it was Paraguay and Stan Smith back in the late 60s or early 70's. I expect more at a Masters series event

Some of the worst line calls have been made throughout this tournament. It's a joke that someone actually wants this tournament to be the fifth slams...
