Medicine or Business?

Not to turn this into a political discussion, but with the current direction of healthcare in America, you might want to rethink going into the medical field. Get the opinions of some current physicians on the future of government funded healthcare and make a decision if it’s something you feel will be in your best future interest.

In most countries, doctors do not make an exorbitant amount of money. The US was the exception and needs to be corrected and it is already happening. Medicine is for those who have a spirit of social responsibility. Military people and police officers do not make an obscene amount of money. Regulating the medical insurance business and making healthcare mandatory and affordable to everyone will reduce what doctors and surgeons make, and that is a very good thing. Simple procedures are exorbitantly expensive, and the medical profession always hides behind "patient's well being" in order to cover its prices. Most common ailments and their medicines and procedures are simple, well known, and done for years and should be cheap. No hiding under the guise of "research" and scaring the people. And no AMA monopoly and regulating medical admissions to create a scarcity of doctors to preserve income levels. Colleges do not produce literature majors based on how many books people read. Let whoever who can study and can afford it get into the profession and let the market decide what they should be paid.

Well, compared to business tycoons, physicians (even in the US) make peanuts. Although it true that compensation in medicine is coming down a bit, it has nothing to do with the overall burden of physician salaries on the medical expenses of the system (of which it is almost insignificant).
