Medium High ball sitter at near the net

You crush and inside out forehand to your opponents backhand, your opponent gets to it and lofts up a sitter close to the net. It bounces slightly high. I race up to the net from the baseline and hit and a overhead from the bounce into the net twice. What shot would you hit ? Drop shot. Or regular ground stroke deep?

I think the OH is fine; maybe you netted it because you were trying too hard to put it away rather than being satisfied with placing it near a corner? How accurate are you with this shot in general?

How high is "slightly high"? If you have to crouch or bend your knees excessively or can't hit the OH at a reasonable height, I'd opt for a high FH GS with the intent of a winner or forcing a weak reply for a volley winner.

DS off of a "slightly high" bounce is risky since it may lead you to trying to cut it too fine.

If its so high I can hit it at my max extension then overhead.
If not then either a swinging volley or a normal volley depending on contact height.

just to add... #1 reason i miss a sitter... because in my mind i already won the point off the great inside-out fh i/you just hit.
so i get lax, footwork gets a bit lazier so i stop fighting for optimal position, i take my eyes off contact, etc...

now i tell myself to fight for position and strict technique for every shot until i actually win the point (you'll need to do that against retrievers anyway).

Of course it depends, but one of my favorite patterns is hitting a deep inside out forehand to the opponents backhand, and I charge in to the net looking for the weak return. If I am early enough and the footwork was good, I'll hit the OH in the air. If I've missed my split coming in, was a bit slow, or something junky is coming back, I like to let it bounce and give myself time to pick a shot. If it bounces high enough for an OH, that is number one. If it is mid-height, I like a hard driven volley more than a full stroke, but that can happen too. If I've pushed them back enough or they are moving on the baseline to adjust for a hard driven shot I do like a soft touch volley or drop shot.

I take those too low for an overhead, but too high for a groundstroke type shots and hit a real severe slice "overhead" with some pace to the opposite corner, but I don't crush it.

I like to try to make my opponents run after another ball rather than smashing an outright winner. ;)

Boom shakalaka, I don't care if I miss, it'll get consistent over time. Just hit your deep corner shot every chance you get

Why don't you wait until your opponent commits to defending one side of the court then tap the ball in the opposite direction?

If they stand in the middle you can just drop shot or hit an angled winner

I use 2 shots on short high balls.

Most frequently, I will hit a drive into a corner or down the middle with a bit of topspin. I hit over the top of the ball to angle it down into the court. If I lift too much, I can hit this shot long so it doesn't have excessive topspin.

Less frequently and when very close to the net, I will hit a slice that is like a volley with a longer follow through. if you hit this downward into the court, you can hit it pretty hard.
