No, he can't be #1 without winning Slams if Nadal/Djokovic keep winning 2 Slams per year. But I wouldn't be surprised if Medvedev does win Slams in 2020.Not sure if it's a bold prediction or not but the way he is playing right now he is on track to get to world #1 next year and his style is sustainable. He can get to #1 without even winning a slam lol. All he has to do is go deep in every tournament.
Is it safe from Medvedev though? If he gets AO, its certainly gonna happen. Fed's record for weeks as #1 looks a lot safer than it did in summer and up to USO.
He looks quite unstoppable right now, reminds me so much of Djokovic. We'll see how his career pans out.Is it safe from Medvedev though?

Lol imagine all the Medvedev hype turning into AO 1st round exit. That’s how the things usually work in tennis.
No.. nothing bold in this prediction..it looks to be absolute certainty. Not sure if it's a bold prediction or not but the way he is playing right now he is on track to get to world #1 next year and his style is sustainable. From Miami 2018 to RG 2018 Zverev won 2 titles, including 1 Masters without even losing a serve, made 2 Masters finals, 1 SF and RG QF. What happened after? He is different from other youngsters. I have never hyped anyone else before. They're inconsistent, Medvedev is not.

He is a different player now, both mentally and game wise. His current run is historic and he is thrashing almost every opponent. He is actually getting better. He is playing better now than he did in North America.
That's in large part because his game is better indoors.
Shanghai is not indoors, except today.
I really want to see the next person who will say Nadal won USO with the most patheitc draw ever.
Medvedev can go on to win CYGS in 2020, these no brain natics will still call it a weak opponent. Remember, they call Djokovic a weak opponent for Nadal at US Open.I really want to see the next person who will say Nadal won USO with the most pathetic draw ever.
I think Medvedev will win a Slam before getting to no 1 but it's far from a requirement. He can gain so many points until Wimbledon it's not even funny. No, he can't be #1 without winning Slams if Nadal/Djokovic keep winning 2 Slams per year. Medvedev can't be #1 if he keeps having poor results on clay. He won 0 Masters on clay and lost in the first round of RG. There a lot of points on clay. If he doesn't improve a lot on clay, Nadal.will retain the #1.
Dude please stop this. Federer got to no 1 without hitting a ball on clay.Medvedev can't be #1 if he keeps having poor results on clay. He won 0 Masters on clay and lost in the first round of RG. There a lot of points on clay. If he doesn't improve a lot on clay, Nadal will retain the #1.

He can play on clay though. He beat a decent Djokovic in Monte Carlo this year, and could have easily won the title, but somehow totally collapsed after leading 5-1 against Lajovic. Then also reached Barcelona final, but was destroyed by Thiem.Medvedev can't be #1 if he keeps having poor results on clay. He won 0 Masters on clay and lost in the first round of RG. Federer didn't hit a ball on clay in 2004-2007?We all know what kind of era 2004-2007 was, no need to keep reminding us.
Federer didn't hit a ball on clay in 2004-2007?
Yeah unlike now for NadalWhen Roger became #1... it was such a tough era. So, so tough. So many greats challenging his reign.

Rafa is also defending very little to his standards between AO and Rome.
Yeah he really dethroned him LMAO. That 3 set win in Rome really told us who's boss.Nadal who dethroned Djokovic for #1 just now and defeated Medvedev (6 straight finals) in USO final. Yeah exactly the same.
he was talking about 2018 and he is right. Clay is only 30% of the tour. As long as Medeved does reasonably well on clay he will be fine. Big 3 won't push themselves outside slams.

No no no. 2020 will be the year Kyrgios eventually wins not 1 but multiple majors and dominates the tour.

Lol, people spent the last year talking about how unstoppable Nole is, and he will take all the records, now three months after Wimbledon and we are already predicting he will concede his pet slam to guy with 0 slams.
And he let Djokovic own him at the AO because he's so nice.Yes it did. Nadal
Can we say that we have 4 serious contenders at slams now?
Nope, Federer is not a serious Slam contender. Can we say that we have 4 serious contenders at slams now?
AO/W/USO yes. RG no.
