Not sure if it's a bold prediction or not but the way he is playing right now he is on track to get to world #1 next year and his style is sustainable. He can get to #1 without even winning a slam lol. All he has to do is go deep in every tournament.
No, he can't be #1 without winning Slams if Nadal/Djokovic keep winning 2 Slams per year. But I wouldn't be surprised if Medvedev does win Slams in 2020.

Of course he can. He plays all the tournaments and goes deep in every single one. Nadal has won the US Open and Montreal after Wimbledon but Medvedev has gained like 1500 more more points than him in the same period. Unless he goes out early at slams he can get to #1 without winning one. Big 3 won't push themselves outside slams. But yes Medvedev definitely has a great chance to win a slam next year.

Lol imagine all the Medvedev hype turning into AO 1st round exit. That’s how the things usually work in tennis.

He is different from other youngsters. I have never hyped anyone else before. They're inconsistent, Medvedev is not.

No.. nothing bold in this prediction..it looks to be absolute certainty.

If I was in betting I would have the taken him for Australian Open. He is available for such easy odds.. behind Federer which is a joke at this point.

From Miami 2018 to RG 2018 Zverev won 2 titles, including 1 Masters without even losing a serve, made 2 Masters finals, 1 SF and RG QF. What happened after?

He is a different player now, both mentally and game wise. His current run is historic and he is thrashing almost every opponent. He is actually getting better. He is playing better now than he did in North America.

That's in large part because his game is better indoors.

Medvedev can't be #1 if he keeps having poor results on clay. He won 0 Masters on clay and lost in the first round of RG. There a lot of points on clay. If he doesn't improve a lot on clay, Nadal will retain the #1.

I think Medvedev will win a Slam before getting to no 1 but it's far from a requirement. He can gain so many points until Wimbledon it's not even funny.

Dude please stop this. Federer got to no 1 without hitting a ball on clay.

He can play on clay though. He beat a decent Djokovic in Monte Carlo this year, and could have easily won the title, but somehow totally collapsed after leading 5-1 against Lajovic. Then also reached Barcelona final, but was destroyed by Thiem.

When Roger became #1... it was such a tough era. So, so tough. So many greats challenging his reign.

he was talking about 2018 and he is right. Clay is only 30% of the tour. As long as Medeved does reasonably well on clay he will be fine. Big 3 won't push themselves outside slams.

I have no doubt that Daniil will become #1. Big three are old and take plenty of earned time off.

No no no. 2020 will be the year Kyrgios eventually wins not 1 but multiple majors and dominates the tour.

Lol, people spent the last year talking about how unstoppable Nole is, and he will take all the records, now three months after Wimbledon and we are already predicting he will concede his pet slam to guy with 0 slams.

I know you're joking but Kyrgios won't reach top 10, like ever. He is not meant for that. I actually expect him to decline in a couple of years.

Nole wants to win 21+ slams and people think he's wrapping things up at 16. No freaking chance lol

He is still young so he plays a lot of grinding tennis. He seems to be fresh but that can’t last forever especially with his fragile and skinny body build. Playing so much he will get prone to fatigue or even injury. So I think next season he should plan to play fewer smaller events especially if he goes deep in pretty much every one he plays. I don’t think getting number one spot should be his priority for the nearest future. Winning a slam should be.
