Mental Health Token

Tennis might be the worst sport for mental health considering the constant pressure to keep racking up points. That's why I'm proposing a mental health token be given to each player each year. I'm not sure how many points these tokens should be worth or if they should carry over from year to year. Maybe they could be used to avoid media obligations for a given amount of time. Maybe they could be used to be avoid having to play Kyrgios in the first round(joke). I'm still considering the various applications but I'm dead serious about these tokens.

I’d like to know what is the exact diagnosis that always gets lumped under the ‘mental health’ umbrella. For example If a player has a physical ailment, throwing your hands up and talking time off is not an appropriate treatment. The ailment need to be ID’d and treated if one hopes to heal 100%.

So what is the mental health ailment in Osaka for example? Anxiety? Let’s figure that out first before we start handing out tokens.

It depends whether players are genuinely suffering from mental health problems, or they are playing the mental health card in order to get people to conform to their agenda.

Tennis is such a mental sport, so mental toughness should be considered a tennis skill, and if you don't have mental toughness then you take the loss.

The very idea of competition in tennis is to not have only a physical ability or skill but a mental strength or skill too. Therefore, this idea negates tennis.

Mother's love can and should help inferior children more, but we cannot turn whole society of ADULTS into a kindergarten. It is long and slow death by self extinction.

idk why zoomers are labeling it like its a new thing ....
technically mac took a sabbatical, wilanders career went down,
and borg retired due to "mental issues"
In the zoomers defense, perhaps if Borg and Wilander skipped out on a tourney or a press conference every now and then, they might've not gone down the tubes before 25 the way they did.

What's new is to publicly acknowledge it, rather than repress it.

If you are too weak mentally then just dont compete. It is not a kindergarten.
True, but players are afraid to take a break because of the pressure of point accumulation. If they each had a token, they could slap it down on the table and chillax. Guys like Thiem can afford to do it but not guys like Donskoy.

let's just remember people get incredibly hot headed over medical time outs...it's unsurprising there are so many polarized opinions about mental health too.

does no one remember mardy fish? was supposed to be a top american player and was for awhile, but basically retired due to extreme anxiety. he has talked about it pretty openly and at length at this point. but i guess twitter wars and reddit weren't a thing back then so he was able to take care of himself in peace.

Lol at all the mental health specialists. Dr TTW does not have a sympathetic bedside manner! God help any patients unfortunate to come their way!

I wonder what's the worse killer virus to have emerged in the past couple of years, COVID or mental health?
The latter. Not even debatable anymore. And it has nothing to do with the virus itself and everything to do with the inhumane worldwide response to it.

I think the worst sport for mental health is the Normandy Invasion.
