Mitchell Krueger: Can he break into the Top 100 or 50 anytime soon?

After what happened in Sarasota (ahem), it appears as though both Tiafoe and Krueger were put into the limelight; that is, they are becoming a bit more relevant.

Krueger isn't too bad, but he lacks the mental game, as do most if not all modern American tennis players. He is, as of this post, 105 rankings below Tiafoe, who sits at 87; so that means he is ranked at 182. Not too shabby, but he can do better than that. Tiafoe is probably one of the few young American tennis players that just continues to impress me. But this thread is about Krueger.

He is the 17th ranked American singles player, and he has potential. I just hope he doesn't go through a phase like Harrison did with injuries. He is certainly not as hedonistic as Tomic, but let's hope he doesn't waste his potential.

Your thoughts?

As for Krueger, I think he lacks the intense weapons he would need to hurt anyone in the top 100. As such, I think his cap is around 100. I doubt he ever breaks into the top 50. To be honest, I doubt really breaks into 250s and 500s. He's a bit slow, his shots are a bit lacking, and his serve leaves much to be desired.

Don't get me wrong, the guy isn't bad. He's thousands of times better than I am. It's just I don't see him damaging anyone of note. Plus, the guy is 23- in near-peak or peak physical condition and he still loses convincingly in most R2 or R3 matches. The only recent time he made it far was in Launceston in February and Binghamton in summer 2016.

I don't see all the potential.

I just want to see more American tennis players really give the pros a run for their money and make it to the top 100 or so.

You are right for the most part. I don't watch him or know his game all that well. Technifibre had a competition for their Young Guns, and Mitchell was one of the competitors. Wasted talent, maybe? If so, I'd rather see him as a late bloomer, kind of like Kohlschreiber.
