NOOOO!!!!

was an intense game. But davenport took the match 6-4 4-6 9-7.

Well done to both players, but i really wanted Molik to win.

quite hilarious when Molik served at 6-6 in the final set as a tie break :)

she thought in the final set you play a tiebreak. But you're meant to play off the final set by being in front by 2 games.
Molik won the first point with an ace then threw her other ball away. Then she just stood there while everyone was waiting for her to make another serve and she wouldv'e just been thinking "what the heck is happening?!" then realises there's no tie break. She laughs :)

I was confused too, how come they did not play a tiebreak? I thought 6-6 was a tiebreak situation? is there a rule I don't know about? if so, does it apply to men's tennis too?

In the Australian Open there is no tiebreak[edit]in the final set...win by two. Did you see that serve called out in the game after 7-7? Shot spot called it good. Oh well good luck to her in the future. I liked her before but now shes gotten better and I like her even more.

GREAT MATCH!!! Best women's match I've seen in a long, long time! Very high quality stuff!! It's just a shame that it seemed every bad call during the match went against Molik, and there were at least 5 or 6 of them. None more critical than when Molik was serving at 40-30, 7-all, and she hit an ace right on the line that was called wide. Shot Spot confirmed the ball was smack on the center line.

Also, someone needs to teach Molik how to hit a lob, a drop shot, and a down-the-line backhand. Had she had these shots she would have won the match easily. There were numerous points she could have saved with a good lob when Lindsey came to net, but instead she tried for impossible passing shots. Still, Molik played a great match. Lindsey really hung in there in the 3rd set, something she has not been able to do recently in big matches. My hat's off to both of them.

The US Open is the only Grand Slam in which you play a tiebreak in the final set for both men and women. All other three Grand Slams you play the final set out, needing to win by two. Don't you guys remember the Roddick-El Aynaoui AO match in 2003 which went to 21-19 in the 5th set? Also the numerous Wimbledon matches that went to like 19-17 in the 5th. They usually involved Sjeng Shalken (one with Courier and one with Philippousis).

BTW, no offense, but are you new to tennis?

i admit ...

i agree with everyone here; molik's made a fan out of me. she's a classy girl and seems to be quite composed unlike many of the female players out there.

i have been watching tennis for 4+ years and i only just now found out about the no tiebreaker rule ... i guess i haven't been paying close enough attention! that or the matches i watch never get into that situation ...

This is my first time watching Molik play and I really enjoyed.

I heard she is a good volleyer but she did not S&V at all in the match. I wonder why. With a big serve like hers, she can win some easy points by coming to the net.

Credit to both players for playing topnotch tennis in the atrocious heat. A lot of folks would have wilted but these ladies played a hard fought match.

This is also the first time I've seen Molik play. She was very steady but one mistake in her last game was all that Davenport needed to secure the match. She definitely looked relieved when the last point was over.
