More Racquet Troubles...

So I learned to play tennis with the Hammer H6 (I previously and incorrectly thought it was the Hammer 6.2 for some reason... they are very similar racquets). This past summer, I tried out a PDR+ from a friend and thought I loved it when I first used it, so I bought one. After hearing from my father about how it had made my game suffer, I accidentally broke it while serving that fall. So I thought, "Gee, good time to demo some new racquets."

So I demoed a few racquets here and there, and decided on the Prince 03 Speedport Blue. I fell in love with that thing. I bought one this past fall and then got another for Christmas.

But today I tossed one up in the air out of anger, and the wind carried it away from me in midair. When it came down on the hard court, it landed right on the 12 o'clock. Needless to say, the frame cracked beyond all recognition right there.

So since my other Prince was getting restrung, I pulled my old H6 out of my bag. After hitting with it for a while, I realized how spin friendly and easy to swing it is. It was like reuniting with an old friend. Then I began to wonder. Do I play so much better with the Prince that I'm willing to spend a huge amount of money on it when I could find this old Wilson on the internet for $70?

I don't know what I should do. The main difference between the two is the overall weight and the balance. I prefer the weight of the Prince and the balance of the Wilson. But then again, couldn't I lead up the H6 more to my liking? If so, I could fill an entire bag with Wilson H6's for next to nothing compared to filling up my bag with Speedport Blue's. But then again, I would still have one Prince...

Ah... I'm so lost. Any words of advice?

I would stick with the newer rackets, as finding replacement grommet strips/bumper guards will be easier. I finally gave up the rackets that I grew up with and played with for 10 years (through high school and college) for this reason.

Oh, and stop tossing your racket around!!! Too many broken rackets!!!

I'll do my best. Haha. I want to stick with the Speedports, but they're so expensive and I won't have a job until this summer...

Keep playing with the H6 until you play really badly again. Then pull out the O3 blue and see if you get the same effect--your game suddenly becomes better.

There's no way to convince yourself how much the racquet really does something until you expereience it yourself. You've had an enlightening experience-but from only from one point of view. Expand your experience.

I'll see how that ends up. I forgot to mention this, but my H6 had regular old 16 gauge synthetic in it too. Makes me wonder...

You're a very cynical person aren't you Alafter?

I've decided that I make little adjustments well enough for the racquet not to matter so much as I've previously thought that it does. Even though the Princes are so much more expensive, I'll stick with them since I already have two and the H6 is impossible to find anymore.
