Multiple hybrid questions from a full bed player

Just to clarify, i play full alu, rpm or razor code
Question #1:
What is the deal with the multi/poly hybrids? Anybody use them, hows the durability in a 16 18 pattern, with a potential use in an 18 20. If you think poly multi is the way to go, whats your favourite, speaking also to durability.

Question #2:
Just for the sake of hybrids, what is your most durable multifilament string to use in your hybrids?

It's an inexpensive version of one of the best hybrids you can have: the natural gut/polyester hybrid. A lot of the top players such as the Bryan Brothers, Federer and Djokovic all use it. However, the high price for natural gut might make it a little difficult for people to afford. you can get a % of the performance by using a less expensive multifilament in the mains instead.

The benefits?
  • Softer string bed = more comfort
  • Less powerful than full bed of multifilament
  • Good amount of spin over the life of the string bed (due to smooth cross strings)
  • More power than a full bed of polyester

In 18 x 20, I've had excellent luck with X One Biphase and Big Banger and the durability has been pretty good.

No multi will last very long with poly cross in a 16x18. The best one I've tried in that sense, is NXT control, which is an excellent string all over.

I use Bab PHT 16 in the mains and Addiction 16 multi in the crosses and have for over 2 straight years. Nothing feels and performs as well for me. There is something about this combination of a very stiff main and a soft multi. It feels almost like gut to me. Very crispy with plenty of dwell time. I prefer the more standard/classic launch angle off the string bed of a hybrid set up and don't like my strings to move around (like full poly). I get plenty of spin so the whole full poly thing isn't for me. I absolutely hate the way a full poly bed feels at the net and on touch shots. The durability on the above string setup (54/56) lasts me about 6 1/2 hours of playing time. Give it a try and see if it's right for you.

I'm about to do a string test that you might find interesting. I'm putting Head FXP Tour on the main with various polys on the crosses. Here are the reasons I chose FXP Tour: first, it is part poly, so that means more durability, control, and spin. Moreover, it is one of the softest strings in TW's data (gut aside of course). Lastly, it also tested positive for very good tension maintenance, which is very important to me. I hope this helps you, or at least interested you. Cheers.
